Yaris
I'm trying to install the Jas 10.4.8 with PPF1 and 2 on my stock Dell 2400. I get past the second screen in the picture but After this there is another screen that says "Loading HFS File" and gives a file location. The first time I booted the DVD, I got to the third screen, but now I can't really get past the second without encountering a black screen. The DVD drive is still spinning, but it seems stuck. Anything I can do? The CPU supports SSE2. The computer has 1GB of RAM. Intel P4 Processor.
Oracle67
On screen No2: just hit any button and wait, it takes few minutes. On screen No3: do nothing, just wait to pass crash reporter. It takes 2 to 10 minutes to pas that stage.
Yaris
Ok. Thank you so much. I'll try that now. I'm a noob. BTW: Is it normal to have a completely black screen after number 2?
Guest Ramm
No, it isn't. What kind of video card do you have?
Yaris
It has an Intel extreme 2 Video card.

I did see on the wiki that some people were able to boot on a Dell 2400. Could my DVD be damaged or burned wrong?
Guest Ramm
Chances are, no. If you got to that stage it seems to be fine. However, you should try another non-internal video card.
Yaris
Well, this PC has no AGP slot. On the wiki, I see that the person booting on my model bought a GeForce FX5200. Would that be ok do you think?
Guest Ramm
What kind of other slots do you have? If you have PCI-E that is the best, but PCI will work also. I believe the 5200 comes in PCI-E.
Yaris
I'ts just PCI. No PCIe. I just want to make sure it's a problem with the video card before I go out and buy a new one.
Guest Ramm
Well then try it. It should work out, and even if it doesn't solve your problem, if you do managed to get it solved that is a much better card for OSx86.
Yaris
Alright. Thanks a lot for both of your help. I'll post to tell how it goes.
