hi ppl

i am just a mac noob here.althoough i dont know much about kernels and kexts, i just got jas 10.4.8 intel sse3(maybe kernel was 8.8.1) working on the following rig:

c2d e6300, 2gb ram @667 mhz,nvidia geforce 7300gs,2*160gb sata2,asus p5ld2 vm se

the sound ,video and os are all working fine.i installed vlc player for watching movies, some work fine, others make it hang.also the os hangs unexpectedly sometimes on opening cd drives as it doesnt read them.

is there any alternative to vlc? i mean are there any codec packs like k-lite for windows?

and, what is the way for taking screenshots on mac so that i can tease my frnds???

also someone may plz suggest how i can write my data in os x.and i need to restart my dsl modem every hour,so i need to prepare a telnet text and automate it to run every hour.thanks in advance

another problem.i have a dsl connection which i have configured in the os manually.now the connection works fine, but if i restart my connection while the connection is still on,after reboot,os x fails to recognise it.i have to plug my dsl router d-link 502t off and then power it on again for getting the conection back.

I was having similar problems with vlc. Apparently they fixed it with the new release... With Quicktime I use perian http://perian.org/ & A52Codec http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/21875 . Those puppies'll handle most anything you throw at them. For more info videohelp.com http://forum.videohelp.com/viewforum.php?f...1e1b3f9d6efab15 has a great mac section.

Grab is a screenshot utility included in osx. It's in /applications/utilities/. It has a very helpful help file you can access by opening it.

Take a picture of the whole screen ⌘-Shift-3

Take a picture of part of the screen ⌘-Shift-4, then drag to select the area you want in the picture. To cancel, press Escape.

Take a picture of a window, a menu, the menu bar, or the Dock. Press ⌘-Shift-4, then press the Space bar. Move the pointer over the area you want so that it's highlighted, then click. To drag to select the area instead, press the Space bar again. To cancel, press Escape.

Don't know about your other problems.

Cheers!

The windows button is what you need. Full screen is not available on quicktime unless you pay for pro. There are some players that are based on quicktime that will allow fullscreen. NicePlayer http://www.macupdate.com/info.php/id/15136...sContainer_link might do the trick. You do need to install the proper codecs.

Tested NicePlayer works fine. No mkv & ogg suppport if you need it.
