nepali_gurkha
hey u guys, I have a ati readon 9800 pro. And QE and CI are both enabled. But the only thing is that the system becomes so sluggish i can't use it, but if i remove all the ati kext from the extensions folder the system runs at balzing speed. This is what im think of: i can't slove this problem. But i just want to try this ( what do u guys thinks of it) Here is what i want to do. I would take out all the ati kext. Then i would restart and just put back the atireadon9700.kext see if that is the kext is the problem then i would try the atireadon9700opengl(idon't know the exact name ) im gussing that osx uses all the kext that has 9700 kexts right? (because thats what osx loads for my 9800) then i could isolate which exact ati kext. what do u guys think? But the only thing is when i move the kext from extensions folder to lets say the desktop and i move back the 9700kext and i try to load it, the ownership and permission changes so i can't load anymore. burnie
here is what you do to reset permissions... just change name of the kext (AppleI386PCI.kext) and do so for all the ones you have moved... sudo chmod -R 755 /System/Library/Extensions/AppleI386PCI.kext/ sudo chown -R root:wheel /System/Library/Extensions/AppleI386PCI.kext/ kextcache -k /System/Library/Extensions I'm also using radeon 9800... and I don't see your problem?... my system runs fine and smooth Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/4985-ati-9800-sluggish-problem-solved/#findComment-31803 Share on other sites

Shimms
I too am having this problem, it run like sludge until I removed the kexts, and now its running faster than windows was on the same hardware. However, since the kexts have been removed, I dont have QE or CI. Even when the kexts were there, it wasn't detecting it as an AGP card, still as a PCI VGA just with the ATI kext loaded. Is there a way to get OS X to see it for what it is (Radeon 9600 Pro) and support all its features, such as Dual display, different resolutions (Display properties only lets me select 1024x768) etc. Darwin reports it correctly on boot btw. jdsony
Shimms, I don't think there is anyway to get dual monitors to work yet with any card. To get more resolutions press "F8" before the white apple screen and then type in "Graphics Mode"="1280x1024x32" or substitute any other resolution. The other way to do this is open up this file with textEdit /Library/Preferences/com.apple.Boot.plist and add a line that says Graphics Mode 1280x1024x32 Or whatever resolution you are looking for. I'm having the same problem with a 9800Pro. Really sluggish with graphical glitches, jumpy movies and then I removed the kext files and the desktop performs perfectly now. Screensaver's are still slow and I don't have any video acceleration for games no QE or CI (said they were supported before I removed the kext's). Let me know if you get anywhere with your experiments nepali_gurka.
