JaredLappa
Does this actually work on an Apple PowerBook G4? I can't seem to get it to read it as an Install Boot Disc. I have tried 2 of these DVDs... They read on the desktop, but not as a boot disc. Question 2: Is there a way to reset the password on the admin w/out having a boot cd of some sort? I read you can insert Install cd from Mac OS X, which I can not seem to find and reset through there. JaredLappa
Cause I have a PowerBook G4.. Got it free, was given to me . Trying to do a clean install of Mac OS X. I think I have a "Retail" DVD for MAC OS X, but I can not get it to boot from it. I can see it on the desktop and it tells me to restart to install, but I have to enter the password, which I have no idea what it is... AppleIIGuy
Did you insert the dvd into the dvd drive and boot with the "C" button pressed? Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/49606-osx86-install-question/#findComment-354824 Share on other sites
JaredLappa
Yes, I tried many times... And I did the Option and that screen comes up, but it only shows the Hard drive... Anyone have a good site to show me how to reset the password on the boot in single user mode? I did... Restart the computer (or turn it on if it's already off) while holding down the command and s keys at the same time Type "/sbin/fsck -y" Type "/sbin/mount -wu /" Type "/sbin/SystemStarter" Here, one could now just type "passwd root" and override the existing root password with one of their own, or worse yet, someone could just get the current root password (and/or the administrative user account password) so the administrators of that computer don't know that their security has been compromised. One of the easiest ways to do this is to just type "nidump passwd ." and write down the root account's password hash. (The hash will be the text that looks like just a garbled mess of alphanumeric characters between two colons.) But couldn't get that last step to work... when i type "passwd root" it doesn't seem to do anything...
