Just a thought - some BIOS' have a bug (or 'feature') and ignore whatever you set, or what the OS tries to do and at BIOS level you get a spin down of the HDD after a set time of inactivity anyway. Apart from being an irritation waiting for it to come back it shouldn't cause problems ... unless you've got some other issues going on there.

Make sure you set the sleep setting to never as well, as it was shutting down my hard drive after the specified time while the display and everything else remained active.

OS X (even on PPC) has always had trouble with sleeping harddrives (at least in my experience). Setting it to never sleep, and unchecking the "Allow hard disks to sleep" provides no protection from the hard disk spinning down.

My Intel box has sleep disabled completely, and when I leave my OS X unattended for a little while, the hard disk spins down, then up, then down, then up, etc., until I move the mouse.

It's really frustrating. I really wish Apple could nail this down, as it has affected my G4 since 10.0 Beta. ;)
