Safe mode boot problem (F8, -v -x)

Hi,

My Mac OS X86 10.4.8 installation went fine, but I'm booting using -v because I can't get through the grey apple with circle spinning.

so I've tried booting in safe mode to remove or move the ATI* / NVID* / GeFo* kext from Extensions folder but after booting using -v -x on startup I get a black screen with mouse cursor on it. I can move the mouse cursor but there's no hard drive activity.

When I boot using just -x I'm still getting the grey apple with the circle spinning underneath it.

Please help. :)
