nepali_gurkha
Hey, I installed 10.4.3 with VMware. I have a few questions: 1) For some reason it seems very unresponsive (there is nothing takeing up cpu power) it seems to be a graphics problem. GFx Card info (ATi Readon 9800 Pro): Type: VGA-Compatible Controller Bus: PCI VRAM (Total): 128 MB Vendor: ATI (0x1002) Device ID: 0x4e48 Revision ID: 0x0000 Displays: Display: Resolution: 1024 x 768 Depth: 32-bit Color Core Image: Supported Main Display: Yes Mirror: Off Online: Yes Quartz Extreme: Supported 2) If i add my Gfx device ID and vendor id do u think QE would work too? 3) Im not getting the darwin boot screen for some reason ( i can't change the graphics mode stuff 4) I was sondering because i installed it through vmware what kernal it used ( u know mach_kernel.sse2 etc.. 5)Im trying to install maxxuss's SSE3-->SS2 Patch but for some reason i can't get in as root, itried all mypasswd still didn't work. Thanks Every one -Tabha Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/4878-unresponsive-1043-speed/ Share on other sites

cyrana
So you did what she asked, right? You deleted that file? It helps if you say things like that. nepali_gurkha
well yea i know, well she also asked "Also what are your processor specs?" and i answered Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/4878-unresponsive-1043-speed/#findComment-31181 Share on other sites
cyrana
So this means you deleted AppleFPMemdriver.kext? Just want to make sure. To install those drivers as root, perhaps log in with -s and then use the passwd command to change the password to something you want (if the root account already exists), otherwise do this in netinfo manager. nepali_gurkha
hey i found the .kext and yes i deleted it, move it to the desktop. But i have to say there is still some lag, the 10.4.1 it was 50 times more responsive there has to be somting else i can do the increase speed. OSX says that both CI and QE are enabled and it is showing the right amount of vram execpt it still says its PCI and not AGP. But back to the kernal stuff what kernal is used when install through vmware? and could that be the problem (i have a amd athlon 64 3000+) Thanks -Tabha Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/4878-unresponsive-1043-speed/#findComment-31263 Share on other sites

nepali_gurkha
hey thanks i got that to work, but i found it is that darwin boot thing seems to think i have only 16mb of vram, while as when i get into osx it thinks i have 128mb (which i have) i can't change my resolution from 1024x768. But it says that CI &QE work. I have a ati 9800 pro. Deleting that file helped alittle with the speed but its still much slower then10.1 what every it was. (any other advice regarding speed) i looked at the activity thing and nothing is eating up the power. I think it has somthing to with the GFX card. Could it have to do with the fact that it thinks its using PCI and not AGP? I also noticed or i can't find the AppleAC97Audio.kext, is this only me? was it not put in 10.4.3? (i need this for sound) Thanks -Tabha Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/4878-unresponsive-1043-speed/#findComment-31320 Share on other sites

As for the reolution you can put in com.apple.Boot.plist with "Graphics Mode"="widthXheigthXdepth" in the kernel flags or as a key. macgirl
Well I'll try deleting ATI Kexts, I know it lost QE and CI but just for test. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/4878-unresponsive-1043-speed/#findComment-31571 Share on other sites
nepali_gurkha
ok, i will try that, but i also wanted to try to change the PCI to AGP, how would i know which kext is loaded for the gfx card so i could add the cpu agp device id and vendor ids? nepali_gurkha
yup that was the problem, i took out all the ati kext and now it works fine, for some reason the resolution stayed at 1280x1024 and of course no kext was loaded and no QE or CI. So what do u think i could do to slove this? Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/4878-unresponsive-1043-speed/#findComment-31586 Share on other sites

nepali_gurkha
well first off i patched the iso with the PPF 1.1v and now my sound works but its still slow. and i know its because of the ati kexts.
