WaldMeister
[boot loader] timeout=10 default=C:\chain0 [operating systems] multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(1)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect C:\chain0 = "Mac OS x86" Shouldn't there be a default OS defined? And did you install OS X before windows? Because then the windows line should like this: multi(0)disk(0)rdisk(0)partition(2)\WINDOWS="Microsoft Windows XP Home Edition" /noexecute=optin /fastdetect Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/48586-dual-boting-chain/#findComment-347891 Share on other sites
yidakee
I am not worthy of my signature... hey deamobile... ! How's that iwi going ? I could continue testing... BUT Please check my screenshot!! Dispair here people.... I am not hi-jacking this thread. It's just that my problem could be related, and I am desperate. I managed to install super cool before, but as a noob here I ended up yo-yo-ing formats and partitions with partition magic until I managed to get OSx up and going. It took a hell of a lot of reading, I can now compete with the big boys (not! lool) except for this stupid boot !! Then, a stupid Norton Ghost while cloning crashed :censored2: my beautiful Tiger already nicely pimped and all.... (I switched drives in my lappy, having my good dual boot through usb2.0) - Crashed TWICE at exactly 61% copying my tweaked XP for Audio into the new drive as partition=0 of the dual boot install... then I tried to boot Mac... poof, gone! And NO, I did NOT choose the wrong drive... Since then, reformated the whole drive, checked for errors etc. Partitioned with XP install CD, installed, etc etc - As I order Partition Magic to set OSx partition as ACTIVE and reboot, OSx cool, XP gone. pressing f8 would let me boot XP in previous dual boot install. Not anymore I have to go off to class now, but I am desperate here. I just cant figure it out. Stayed up ALL through the night!! :censored2: :censored2: :censored2: arg !! Now it's like this Part0 = 8mb (used partition magic, only let me choose FAT... it now says FAT12 !?!? - nothing seems to be there) Part1 = 50GB Xp Clean install. Part2 = 50GB Mac OSx running smooth Part3 = 50GB Fat32 for storage PArt4= 8mb I have no idea why it exists I read somewhere it was quite an advantage to have that little 8mb zero partition formatted in FAT.. But I just cant go in XP !! I press F8 and it says hd(0,1) hd(0,5) Xpired Studio (would be my Xp audio drive) hd(0,6) Hackintosh hd(0,7) I ran fdisk in Terminal to set Xp partition Active. On reboot OSx boot nicely, same problem persisting... The menu looks substatially different from my last good install! Before, just the name of the OS, now like that. Choosing XP just hangs a blinking dash top left corner. pllleeeeeease...... a solution? Oh booooy... I really cannot restart this whole shennanegan from zero... arg! it's my 6th try TODAY. I got it right the first time around when I knew nothing, everything booted up dandy! I am exausted and still have to go to class! I can barely read a straight line... thanks Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/48586-dual-boting-chain/#findComment-347923 Share on other sites

I can barely read a straight line... thanks What error do you get when you try too boot XP. Someting about hal.dll could not be found? This would mean that your boot.ini hasn't set the right partition. It could be that XP has partition 1 as XP partition in the boot.ini. In fact, in your case, it's partition 5, correct me if i'm wrong. But one question tho, where did partition 2,3, and 4 go? Also, you could convert the NTFS partition to Fat32, so that you can read/write from OS X. NTFS is read only. But make sure the partition table does not change, because that would screw up OS X. I recommend Acronis Disk Director Suite, never let me down Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/48586-dual-boting-chain/#findComment-347947 Share on other sites
yidakee
YEY !! a reply !! LOL.... thanks man !! Well... When I select XP, nothing happens. I would have to switch drives to read exactly what... but not worth it... It just says the stuff like "darwin version whatever Video Whatever, 1024 Ram" as normal. Below this you would find the list. The list dissapears on pressing Enter to choose OS and *pufff* everything dissapears except for the first 3-5 lines of title and the comatosic blinking Do you recon I could back up my small and super tweaked XP from THIS hard drive onto the XP/Mac drive (via usb enclosure) That would be beautiful... it's super stable and all configured.... I tried TWICE before to copy it directly (no imaging) but crashed BOTH TIMES at exactly 61%. I am creating an image this time. Downloading Acronis right now... And yes, very well defragmented, no errors... a very healthy drive. oooooohh... I am just SOOOOOO tired.... havn't slept for 38 hours looool - back from school, first sunny day in weeks... ARG !! Thanks deamobile... Hey, any word from jalavoui ? I am itching in expectation !! PS: I think that when setting OSx partition to primary, XP partition musta have been set not-active... but I did so from the Terminal using fdisk with no luck... PS: I know I know !!! Whats up with that partition numbering !?!? Before this last reinstall I wiped the WHOLE thing NTSF, the partitioned clean... I have NO idea...
