I'm attempting to partition the disk on my 15" MacBook Pro (Core 2 Duo, 2GB RAM) using the Boot Camp Assistant application. When I get to the partition stage, this message appears:

Is there any way to get around this message without the full backup and restore as the message suggests? Disk Utility reports no errors on the disk.

There are a couple things that might work, basically it means that there are unmovable files on the outer sector of your disk. If you have any Parallels virtual HDs, delete them, the Bootcamp Assistant can't move them.

You can also try iDefrag or anything similar, it may move the guilty files. And if you have an external HD you can use something like Carbon Copy Cloner to create a mirror of your internal drive boot off that, verify everything still works and then reformat your internal drive and then run CCC to put everything back on your internal drive.

If nothing works you'll probably have to backup/restore like it suggests.
