I installed MAC OS X 10.4.8 successfully with a few problems. Just three that are quite annoying actually. The first one is when ever I try to boot into the OS it tells me HFS+ partition error, then when I put in the installation CD and try to turn on and boot into OS it works fine. How can I fix this? Second is my problem with the USB ports on my computer, OS X seems not to be able to read from them or something. my mouse won't work through them nor my thumb drive. Lastly is my sound card problems which are due to improper installation of driver files, I just need to know hwo I can reinstall them?

Thank you!

I have one 80GB hard drive that I partitioned into 70GB roughly and 10GB. The 70 GB is the NTFS for Vista and the 10GB is for Mac OS X as I intended to keep it a test OS for a while until I like it on my pc. Vista partition is labeled as partition 1 and OS X is partition 2.

My audio card is built into the motherboard and all I know is that the speakers use the realtek ac97 driver which is installed by OS X but not properly.

Type of partition? I'll just assume your osx partition is primary (as it should be).

Then check devilhood's guide for dual boot with Vista, especially the "Fix for the dreaded HFS+ Partition Error" section.

As for the audio card, check which kind of realtek ac97 you have (eg alc850? or other?), and there might be someone with a particular solution (or you can use the search engine).

Hmm for the audio card I think I would need to go into windows Vista and check it out to see for sure! as for the partition error looking at the tut now so thanks for that!

Ok I found my audio port, its an intel® 82801 BA/BAM AC'97 Audio Controller! I hope that is it, he he!

To get more precise help from folks here, you should give more details about your pc: which model? or if self-built, which parts? Etc.

That way the onboard parts (audio, usb, ethernet, etc) will be easier to pinpoint, and so will the possible solutions.

Also check the Hardware section of the sister OSx86 Wiki, in which you might also find other solutions to future problems, and useful tips&tricks.

Well I personally did not build the computer myself but it was built from a non-name manufacturer. The specs are:

Celeron 2.80GHz|512MB RAM|nVidia 128MB GPU|80GB HDD

P.S.

I just found out that USB flash drives don't work with the intel based pcs and OS X but people are working on a fix.

P.S. Again:

That wiki is awesome thanks for pointing me to it cause I just learned that the Kexts for most AC97 chipsets did not come with the installation. This is why it is always good to go with Mac hardware lol jking! Anyways I'll try to find my own drivers and follow those steps! Thanks again cbmkgd!

Ok I still have problem with Audio since I cannot find the right KEXT for my darwin version, my version is 8.8! Also the HFS+ error is still there! Any help though on audio, I can find the solution to HFS error later on!

EDIT: I finally got my audio to work, I think I followed the tutorial a bit wrong but then I got it right!

There are two kinds of partitions when using the classical MBR: primary and logical.

Just make sure your osx is on such a primary.

It could be the first or second partition, active or not.

If you want to use vista's bootloader to boot both, then vista's partition will be active; if you want to use osx's bootloader to be the master, osx's partition will be active.

For the hfs+ error, did you check the link I gave in post#5 ?
