I recently bought a Dell 1450 miniPCI card (BCOM 4309) off Ebay for $10.95 USD. I swapped out my RealteK 8185L miniPCI and loaded the drivers (WinXP drivers) I DL'd from Dell. Had to manually install drivers (drivers couldn't automattically find new hardware) but after that I had WiFi working excellent on my Gateway laptop in WinXP. The Dell 1450 miniPCI card was a little to large to fit in my laptop WiFi compartment so I made sure it worked first then I did a little modification to the compartment. After the mod the card just fit with absolutely no other room to spare.

After getting the card working in WinXP in about 3 min. I tried followed the instructions for this card for OSX after doing a search on this site. Within a few more minutes I had an Airport card running in OSX. I guess I'll keep the Realtek just in case support actually becomes available but for now I finally have a portable Mac besides my main computer. If only someone can get the ATI X200m to support QE/CI now.

If anyone has probs getting WiFi working on their laptop I highly recommend the cheap alternative. You can't go wrong.
