Well there is no perfect hackintosh if you want work out of the box , speed and stabile system get a mac.

Having said that this is a Guide to installing osx86 on the Asus P5W DH(deluxe)

Its a great board for windows but a lot of us have found out this board also works well with osx86. I'm writing this guide because installing OSX is no a easy job.

i had like 20 reinstalls it took me a week to get the system working well.

because so mutch info about this board is out there scattered over several posts i decided to make a new one. With all the stuff in there and orignal links

First keep in mind only the BLUE ATA or the RED/BLACK SATA ports work dont connect any thing to the orange sate or the black AtA connectors. (raid red Sata will work but you have to set it to sata IHC7

in the bios)

Oke step 1 getting Osx 86

there are so many builds out there

Just get Jas amd/intel pr1 pr2 its a realy good one.

i got mine from a torrent site the pirate bay

step 2 burn image to a DVD well ghes you don't need my help with that

step 3 put it in the dvd drive and reboot hit DELETE when you see the asus screen.

we nead to fix a few things in the Bios just turn all stuff off that you don't need

less stuff = less problems

its very important you turn off the Max cpuID value limit! It will crash your system if you boot with it turned on . disable that floppy drive come on its stone age tech!

also go to boot and set the dvd drive as primary boot device second should be your hard drive. now just save and exit

step 4 installing osx

boot from your dvd no the system is not hanging this may take a while go get a cop of coffee or some thing come back in 5 . Make a language choice. notice after that you will get a tool bar at the top of the screen. there is even a disk utility program

you can set up your drive's format partion ect ect just do what you must or just skip it

now click the drive you want to install osx on , and now we come to checking of boxes, just uncheck ALL saves you a few gigs of HD space an a ton of installing time. Just check the intel SSE2/SSE3 and the moost common hardware.

after that well take an other break the can take up to 30 minuts to an houer depend on the rest of your hardware.

well the system will reboot by it self keep your fingers crossed, but i know it will boot

answer the questions ect ect and there it is OSx now reboot

well did it reboot? i hope so it always did on my system.

step 5 what works and what not?

usaly a lot will work but some stuff not like sound raid video will work but its slow

just check your system. make a list.

if you want to upgrade to 10.4.9 well now is a good time if you dont want to upgrade go to next step.

any way its not important now 10.4.8 its a fine base to explore osx from well we all want 10.4.9 right well lets do that fist and drivers later

get a update to 10.4.9 jas has one but i had trouble with it some of the other guys did not but i DID so i downloaded the koolkal update to 10.4.9 this one has also the new kernel! 8.9.1 . well download it , i got mine at demonoid but there are other places. Well you got it well install it and reboot.

step 6

Drivers this is where most of my time was spent getting the right drivers that did not Crash my system.

Sound

Taruga has released some new sound drivers for the ALC882 chipset that the Asus P5W-DH uses.

http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...=32859&st=0

go to the site down load the AppleHDA Patcher v1.15 and

http://psykopat.free.fr/apple/AppleHDA/realtek/ALC883.txt

put them both on your desk top now drag and drop the text file on the applehda icon thing will happen by them selfs.

Or you can use his pre patched package v. 0.4 it works

network cable and wifi

wifi realtek made some apple osx driver download them here

http://www.realtek.com.tw/downloads/downlo...;Downloads=true

cable well it sould work but if yours does not work

http://rakis.net/~justin/p5w-dh

down load IONetworkingFamily.kext.zip, unzip and put the kext in your /System/Library/Extentions/ (remove old one first)

fix permissions :

open the consol box it sould be under application/ utils

now you have to type this over and remember you need to typ it exzacty or you copy paste per line thats what i do :(

sudo chown -R root:wheel /System/Library/Extentions/IONetworkingFamily.kext

sudo chmod -R 755 /System/Library/Extentions/IONetworkingFamily.kext

cleanup kext caches :

sudo rm /System/Libary/Extensions.kextcache

sudo rm /System/Library/Extensions.mkext

if you have trouble with the USB just download the : IOUSBFamily-261.4.2_Intel.pkg.zip and install the package.

reboot and everything should be working (audio, both ethernet ports, USB).

Video :

All driver can be found at

http://diabolik1605.com/

I have the ati x1900 well lets just say that in my case the driver would just not work for the Ati x1900 and Ati 1950 go to the master.

Just fyi... I used the red (for mac install) and black (for windows install) SATA ports on my configuration. It works great! Make sure you run in AHCI mode for sata so you don't get an annoying disk initialization error every time you load up. I was also using Bios 1901.

it sould work but not all

this is an instal guide for al questions go to 1 off these 2 links you get your ansor way faster be we alll watch those links closely and well upzzz them when neaded ;))

  • 2 weeks later...

Hi! I've been going on for about a week to get my P5W to work. It is a OSx only machine. I wanted to know if i could get an exact list or things that had been altered to defalt bios ver 1901. I have installed OSx Jas 10.4.8 ppf1&2 on my drive a SATA II seagate(many times) on the red SATA port using a dvd drive on the blue ide plug. After install all i get is a black screen and the blinking line at the upper left corner. Been Messing with the bios settings but always end up with the same result. I have a sata dvd drive coming in the mail if that helps things. I format the harddrive as extended (journaled) and select intel, support for common hardware, and the titan.

any help would be great! for my hairline! :)

Sounds to me like you didn't format the drive correctly. In disk you utility there are 2 disks in the left column, the main disk and the partition. You need to format the top main disk first, if you just do the partition it won't be able to have an mbr.

Ya I've done all of that and still the same results. Seems like i have used every different bios setup possible and reformatted the disk 10 times or so. This makes me think i have a hardware problem or the disk utility on the installer is messed up. I will prob install XP or Linux on there just to see if i can get something working on the Hd. I heard conneting a sata dvd drive can work Better then using the ide? i get the sata burner in a day or 2 so hopefully that is the problem. O, my sata drive is never reconized as the master startup with certain bios setups i get ide hdd master not found which i get when using the ide standerd with sata+pata that has worked for some people? Should i use an ide harddisk as my startup???

All help and info will be gobbled up.

Big thanks. :thumbsup_anim:

Hi fellow P5W owners,

I am trying to get Jas 10.4.8 installed on my P5W but ran into problems real quick. I currently have xp installed on a raptor with a 10gb partition at the end of it which i formatted as an -af primary partition which i set to active using diskpart in xp. I also have another 2 sata drives connected and ide dvd drive. When trying to install from the dvd i get the following errors. Below is the last three lines of the install log:

AppleHDA.kext failed to load: unable to locate 'layout-id' property.

Extension "com.apple.iokit.IOUSBMassStorageClass" has no kernel dependency.

Still waiting for root device...

After searching the forums it seems that the first might be an audio issue which doesnt seem to be a showstopper and the second im not sure but have heard it could be because i am using an ide dvd drive although how would the installer be able to even read from the dvd then? Is there still no way around using a sata/usb dvd drive?

@Candykane: AS per you installation instructions i have no drives on the orange sata or the black eide as well as disabled max cpulimit. Are there any other bios settings you recommend changing.

Incidentally as i mentioned in my other recent post i now cannot get back into xp which is beginning to freak me out. I am hoping that if i can successfullt install osx then i will properly be able to boot into xp using darwin.

Anyone have any ideas?

thanks

Well dont think its a drive problem sinds it does boot.

i use ata hd drive and dvd drive on the blue ata ide poort.

Wel you could start by telling what version you are trying to install. Jass pr1 pr2? i take it?, with what options do you install it.

what videocard do you have? usaly i just vink sse2/sse3 some times moost common hardware will help as well.

hmm you sould go to the bios turn it all off sound, jcom controller ports, fire wire , serial, paralel, ect ect

only the core things on. like your sata set it to ahci (in de bios) and usb poorts

tip someguy say bois version 1601 dont work :S well so check that as well i konw 1707 does work used it my self a long time but the rest of te guys are at 190X so if you still have and old bios upgrade.

if you want to be sure yor partitions are right get a linux install CD and partion it using linux first and later format with your disk util from osx (windows really makes a mess off things.)

you could also have a faulty dvd .. had that once burned it way to fast gave a soorta of error stuff during the installation . so i slow burned it 2 speed to be on the safe side that it would work. and it did.

good luck you sould realy reply in the 2 asus threats ook there more often than in this one
