I have no clue what changed on my OS-X, except that I ran an iLife upgrade, but now my sound will work about 60% of the time. If I reload iTunes over and over again, it will eventually work, but it will then drop out as soon as I hit the pause button. It did not do this for 2 months until yesterday. I had this problem about 4 years ago when running linux, but that was because the ALSA couldnt handle more than 1 sound at a time, and this isnt what is going on, as iChat loses its sound as well, as does the system notification sounds.

Specs:

AMD X2 5200

2 Gig Memory

7800 GT Video Card

DFI Infinity NF-II MoBo (NForce4 Ultra)

Thanks

Rob

Edit: The problem is that it is switching Outputs on me. I plugged it into the Mic, and it started working.

Anyone solved this problem?

I think I might have found the problem.

I went into the MIDI setup and changed from 6 channel to 2 channel output, and it seems to be working.

I was using 2x stereo output on my logitech 5x00 series speakers, and as soon as it wasn't working, I switched to 6 ch direct output, and it's working...go figure. Hope people find this post that need it.

edit: only center channel is working, and it's only playing either the left or right channel (can't tell). So yea, it's switching outputs in software for some reason. Can't wait to buy a real mac...
