  1. Could this same "brute force" method be used to figure out the register changes needed for MCP89 AHCI windows 7 support? I'm on a mid-2010 mac mini with a crucial m4 128GB drive.
  2. iPC 10.5.6 Safe to Software Update?

Here goes nothing! *covers nuts like Basher in Ocean's Eleven before the EMP* Edit: Success! 10.5.6 -> 10.5.6 with itunes/quicktime/security/airport/etc
  3. iPC 10.5.6 Safe to Software Update?

What other folder do kexts get installed into? What does the bootloader have to do with this? I would assume a retail install with the vanilla kernel would always be safe to use software update on?
  4. Think these updates are safe? I'm running a pretty clean install of iPC with voodoo 9.5.0 kernel on AMD Athlon64 X2, nforce 4, and radeon x1900xt. I have the option of AMD Software Update but can't really find if that's going to be more reliable or what.
  5. I'm having the same problem with transmac...all versions...the mac drive doesn't show up in the lower right box. HFSExplorer works fine, but I need to write, not read. Did you ever figure your's out?
  6. Intermittent Sound

I was using 2x stereo output on my logitech 5x00 series speakers, and as soon as it wasn't working, I switched to 6 ch direct output, and it's working...go figure. Hope people find this post that need it. edit: only center channel is working, and it's only playing either the left or right channel (can't tell). So yea, it's switching outputs in software for some reason. Can't wait to buy a real mac...
  7. Followed instructions to a T; however, the new partition it created was an extended partition...I didn't think much of it, my setup was like this, all primary partitions: begin | windows(45GB) | leopard(25GB) | free space(60GB) | ntfs partition(100GB) | end Made a new, unformatted partition in vista that occupied the free space, booted to os x, erased it with Journaled HFS+, ran the mergePartition with the 60GB partition as the second argument (was disk0s5) and it somehow erased part of the ntfs partition, leaving 40GB of free space, with the new leopard as 140GB instead of 80GB. Now the setup is this: begin | windows(45GB) | leopard(140GB) | freespace(40GB) | end The weird thing is, the 100GB ntfs partition was primary, not extended, so when I made the new partition, why did it have any connection to the ntfs partition? And you can't say that I picked the wrong partition, otherwise I would have 60GB of free space left, or none at all. I would avoid using vista's disk management to create the new partition from empty space and just use fdisk from the OS X CD if I did this again.
  8. I have an x1900xt under a 10.5.2 install after graphics update. On the very first boot up, I got a message saying that Natit had errors and couldn't be used, so I looked for something else. User Jccool made some kind of installer for ATI x1900 series cards, so I tried that and it didn't work. I don't know how to uninstall it, and jccool doesn't speak english very well I guess? so he didn't answer when I asked, so I just installed Natit_autoATI, this time with kext helper b7. It sets my resolution correctly on boot (verified in monitor built in menu) but then freezes at a nice pretty blue screen. I've tried -x at boot, and I've tried getting rid of all of the ATIRadeon*.kexts (left the ATINDRV and the other all caps one there). Any ideas? I'd think maybe formatting and reinstalling and just using the natit_autoati would work, but I don't want to do that if I don't have to. Is there a way to uninstall that package that jccool made?
  9. ATi X1900XTX 512MB

Does this still work? Last time I tried it gave a kernel panic, but that may have been to NVIDIA kexts that were in there.
  10. Remember I have an x1900xt. Aren't your 10.5.1 installs for x1950xt? Also, the All-in-one package just has the same x1900xt install that is listed on the web, and they're both EFI. I don't see any non-EFI x1900xt 10.5.1 installs. Is that really what you meant?
  11. Is there a central "do this to install Natit" thread? I can't seem to find it, there are things everywhere! Better yet, how to uninstall the jccool package?
  12. Jccool, I already tried that at the command line at boot "Graphics Mode"="1680x1050x32" but I'll try this too! Rebooting now. edit: Didn't work. Are there any logs or anything I can post? edit2: Gah, I edited the backup. Trying again edit3: stuck 1680x1050x32 in there instead of 1280x1024x32, and it set resolution to 1400x1050...The huge key is definitely in there. Begins with "74020000010" bunch of other numbers, ends with "f70696173"
  13. I'm using zephyroth 10.5.2 (SSE3 9.2.0 with EFI like 8.8 or something?), I used the jccool x1900xt installer just fine, rebooted, and can only pick 1280x1024 in the display preferences (monitor is 1680x1050). I have an x1900xt with id 7249 and that big long hex string is in the com.apple.Boot.plist. What am I missing?
  14. Zephyroth 10.5.2 with ATI X1900XT

OK, reinstalled just fine, but still no resolution options. I guess I'll keep looking
  15. I had a great install going except for that I couldn't select my monitor's native resolution (1680x1050), it only listed 1024x768. I figured, "oh, this is probably pretty common," but I searched around and couldn't find anything except for the G5 driver trick (http://www.macgeekery.com/hacks/software/ati_displays_utility_on_a_mac_pro). I did what it said, made sure to recopy sysctl, and now when I boot, it looks like it's throwing an error on the video drivers (did a -v). It says geforce...but i've never install nvidia drivers on it. Is there a way to uninstall the package from single user mode or something? Do I have to reinstall fresh? Also, once I do fix it and/or reinstall, how can I go about fixing my resolution? I can't seem to find that anywhere...is everyone else's "just working"? I'm definitely checking the box during the install, don't even ask =P
