As far as Mobo goes, I'd suggest trying to find an Intel 945 chipset since that's what the real Macs[except Mac Pro] use, or the Intel 915 chipset, since that's what the dev kits back in '05 used[it's what board my Vaio in my sig has, runs like a charm].

Since you didn't really list a price range or which company you prefer[AMD/Intel], that's the best I can offer.

This cheapo motherboard works perfectly with OSX right out of the box! Sound, video, network, all work without additional patches (using 10.4.8 Jas).

It is a Intel 865G chipset based board with AGP, and supports conroe/kentsfield/EMT64 based processors too.. which is amazing for a 865 chipset.

Just find a good deal on a socket 775 cpu like some of the ones mentioned above.

Cheers!

The board I have is a very good board (945gntlkr) or the ASUS P5LD2-VM $64.99 and a PentiumD 915 $88. (both Newegg / open box)

The Asus MB will support Core2 (if you get one later) and you can overclock. The 945gntlkr will do neither. The Intel board and the Asus MB have GMA950. Both MB's work very well with OSX. The dual core pentium d is in the same price range as a P4. Price is around $150 for MB, CPU and graphics. Not bad.
