First of all Darwin is the core system in Mac OS, that is based on Unix. Should you care? No, just install Mac OS and it will install the core files by itself...that is for the darwin part.

Secondly, the waiting for root device problem has most likely to do with your devices, for instance some hard disk drives are not detected. Keep in mind that Mac OS X x86 is hacked to run on 'standard' computers. Start by reading here http://wiki.osx86project.net/

Last: Do not expect that all your devices will work!

Hi Adnan:

I've had good success with installing Myzar 10.4.6 on Dell and other machines (including my own). Go ahead and install off 10.4.6 DVD. Darwin will get installed along with the install.

I used to get the error "still waiting for root devices" when installing on laptops. If you are still getting errors, you may try unplugging non-essential devices (printers, scanners, cameras, etc). Also, you can disable some peripherals in the BIOS if you need to. Once you get Mac OS X up and running, you can start adding back devices in BIOS and plugging devices them back in.
