If the fan of your chipset failed and probably caused it to overheat a bit but not melt, could an overheated chipset cause the BIOS or EEPROM to mess up (there is no beep, no monitor signal, no LAN lights at the back, but it does turn on the computer and the fans for the CPU, video, the chipset itself)? What would be a good solution to restore the EEPROM or BIOS? What's the difference between a BIOS and an EEPROM anyway? What is flashed when you use the Award flashing utility, for example?
