First post guys, please play nice :D

First of all, system specs:

Asus P5WD2-E Premium w/ Pentium D 2.8, 1gb ram

ATI X300 PCI-E (device ID 5b60)

Linksys USB 54g W/L

I loaded the Jas 10.4.8 (Intel SSE3), including the combo pack and the audio. Installed fine except for some screen artifacts. Loaded the Ralink drivers as specified for the USB wireless, worked fine. Loaded the 882M audio drivers, sound also works.

The only thing that has me stumped now is the video. I used z0rz script to fix the res at 1024x768@32 and the artifacts are fixed. Only prob is I cannot select the 1366x768 res for my 42" LCD. I have tried the easy-installer from another thread (which I believe was built on 10.4.4) but this caused the system to black screen on reboot, and I had to reinstall the OS. Also tried the callista patches from Italiano but it doesn't work on the new kernel (errors before installer finishes).

Anyone have any ideas how I can get this to work? All help appreciated, thanks.

edit: played with z0rz script a bit more, found that using cal3 0x0x0 1 1 made many resolutions available, no 1366x768 though :) Have just found katana so will play with that. Only problem now is I accidentally chose the wrong res so have to boot up with the -x "Graphics Mode" to get it to boot, whenever i try a regular boot it says gfx mode is out of range on screen. Have edited boot.plist also to no avail, will try katana and see how it goes...

For some reason I cannot recover a working graphics mode without booting with the -x flag.

I have added

<key>Graphics Mode</key>

<string>1024x768x32</string>

to the com.apple.Boot.plist file

It seems to come up in the correct res to the point I see the desktop background, but then something overrides it and the screen goes back to 'Video Mode Not Supported".

Does anyone have any ideas, it is driving me nuts and I am sick of reinstalling from scratch (have done it about 5 times today).
