pgtci
Hey All, I recently installed Jas 10.4.8 on my Dell D620 Laptop. The problem is that it will only boot if I go to the boot menu, select CD/DVD (with the install disk inside), then let the timer runout. If I try and boot straight in to the HDD, it just hangs (blinking cursor). Any ideas? Please let me know if you get the networking (wireless or lan) and the sound working. Video works for me with the NVidia Quadro. pgtci
Hey Le Chuck, I actually already disabled the second core. It just sits there and blinks a "_" unless I go to the boot menu and select cd, then let it timeout. Some sort of boot record issue maybe? I have the wireless working so far, I'll try ethernet today. Here's my wireless instructions (copied from another post - requires dell wireless, not Intel) sudo nano /Library/Preferences/SystemConfiguration/NetworkInterfaces.plist (sudo prompts for your password, enter it) A few lines down you'll see: 'en0' under 'BSD Name', change this to 'en1' (no quotes for any of it) A couple lines further down 'IOInterfaceUnit' and just below it '0'.. Change that to a '1' (again, no quotes) Now hit Ctrl+O to WriteOut (save) the file, and Ctrl+X to exit. Reboot. Now once you've rebooted the menubar icon will still say it isn't configured. No worries though! Open up system preferences and click on Network. It should tell you there was a new port discovered (airport) and voila, your airport connection is mapped to the Airport card instead of oddly through the ethernet interface. pgtci
I got it! A post by JaS said that you shouldn't use "erase" when making the partition, use "partition " instead. The erase option has a bug in it. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/47753-dell-d620-boot-issue/#findComment-344186 Share on other sites
