Racuerex
so I got everything goin good with the laptop today...most basic step by step went like this Got partition magic Got Tiger OSX86 image Burned Tiger OSX86 onto DVD Resized partition on primary drive to 8 gigs less than normal switched boot priority to DVD drive booted off of OSX86 DVD, mounted/"formatted" to HFS+ on 8 gig partition - this was easy and with minimal OS install experience you should be able to know what to choose to do everything right. installed OSX86 restarted and everything is fine, boots alright and now im just seeing what "works" and what dosent. Working: Startup,Display, most applications load Not Working: Ethernet, Wifi, Bluetooth, USB, Screensaver, Shutdowns, Dell front audio controls (yet one of them does make a speaker icon appear in OSX). Any suggestions? Im going to try and patch to 1043 tomm. - Racer X Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/4773-success-on-a-dell-insp-6000/ Share on other sites
osxgus
Hi! I am on the same config. Tried to do a clean install of 10.4.3 last night, but I had a bit of problems. Previously I had the 10.4.1 installation DVD pre-patched & working. I managed to go through the entire installation over the old drive (clean install erasing the previous system 10.4.1 first). I used boot.ini as a boot loader. had to switch boot partition to my win xp home partition again, by setting boot flag in ubuntu live terminal (sudo cfdisk \dev\sda). Previously I would select "Mac OSX" in my boot menu, and it would take me to the Darwin boot loader screen where I selected the correct partition to start from, but when I had installed 10.4.3 and selected "Mac OSX" it would simply flash the win boot loader screen, and nothing would happen (almost as if it went into darwin and had my win partition in a default selection). Anyway.. help would be appreciated, I am also on Inspiron 6000 with x300 gfx, 80 gig hd, 1gb ram (max res 1680x1050)etc.. Please also note that yes I patched the DVD with maxxus latest DVD patcher before I did anything. Now when I try to re-install it, it only comes to loading the grey apple screen with the spinning thing, and then brings up the RESTART screen in different languages, before it even goes blue :-(. FYI: I had 10.4.1 working almost flawlessly. GFX (not widescreen though), sound, USB, etc.. it ran damn smooth.. just looking for these magic ATI drivers in 10.4.3.. . TIA /gus Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/4773-success-on-a-dell-insp-6000/#findComment-30327 Share on other sites

Why did you do this and not just let darwin choose for you? Thats what I do on mine, it just asks which partition I want and I select either my Windows one or my OSX one, sure it dosent "say" windows or OSX, but I know what it means when it asks if I want the Windows NT or hd02dsk or something to that effect. I also know you can rename them very easy, its in the simple installation guide in the wiki. FYI: I had 10.4.1 working almost flawlessly. I think my gfx are working, but I dont know how to check, the OS seems to run real smooth...id really like the USB to work so I can use my mouse...haha. - Chris Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/4773-success-on-a-dell-insp-6000/#findComment-30408 Share on other sites
osxgus
hi, i was using a pre-patched dvd from o1nk.me.uk, didn't have to change any settings after using it. could just have used darwin, but i prefered it to timeout into win xp since wireless dont work in osx.. cheers (let me know if you get 10.4.3 working with QE/CI thx) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/4773-success-on-a-dell-insp-6000/#findComment-32030 Share on other sites
