regomodo
After a fruitless attempt at installing osx86 i tried to wipe my hard drive. Acronis does not support windows dynamic disks it says when it tries to access the drive. I tried to format it with QT parted but im limited to 128GB instead of 200GB. Try fat32 partition and format. It creates a partition but refuses to format. Try ext3 partition and format. Again, it limits me to 128GB. Windows nor Acronis refuse to recognise (i have other ext3 partitions working in wondows before anybody says anything). I tried to do a Ubuntu install on it earlier but that didn't work. Same formatting problems. I used the disk utitlity in mac osx86 to format the drive (journaled hfs i believe). Could it be because of this? When i look in Disk Utility i notice that it reads my HDD incorrectly as 128GB. Please help. So far, mac os x86 is the only OS (of many i've tried) that has damaged hardware Ok, I tried to use the disk utility to erase my hard drive. I did what i could in there (MS-DOS filesystem selection). Well, that didn't work. Still got the unrecognized hard drive error in Acronis. Come on guys. I thought this place is supposed to be tech savvy. Nobody has helped me here at all so far! Here are some screendumps of the problem attached Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/47671-killed-hard-drive/ Share on other sites
erbic
Try using an XP install disc to format the disk. Might work better than the ways you've tried already. regomodo
Try using an XP install disc to format the disk. Might work better than the ways you've tried already. Found an easier way http://www.freshscoop.com/modules.php?name...ticle&sid=5 This link helped a lot. I used the Samsung disk utility disk. Quick and simple. I have a feeling it'll work with other manufacturers' drives too but don't hold me too it. For the manufacturer utilities you may need your HDD serial number. To save hassle for Samsung users i've attached the utility dm_creator.rar Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/47671-killed-hard-drive/#findComment-341447 Share on other sites
Gray_Matter
Try doing a google search for a "destructive format utility" I had something close to the same thing happen to me a couple months ago, I did a destructive format and now all is well.
