X-FLASH08
Ok.. I might get killed for posting this here, but I thought it was the best place to. I have a PC with Windows and Ubuntu Dapper installed. Now... I want to erase Ubuntu from my PC and leave only Windows, and I want to know if I erase the partition of Ubuntu, will my boot crash?? I mean, will Windows still be able to boot by itself after erasing Ubuntu's partition??, I can erase the partition using Patition Magic 8.0, can you guys tell me if there will be any problem?! dakine
Does you system boot with grub. Which version of windows do you have. If you have XP, you should be able to repair the MBR fro XP by booting from the XP boot disk, then press R. I would suggest that you do this before erasing the linux partition, then once you have windows booting normally, you can erase linux Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/47229-help-with-boot-problem-damn-pcs/#findComment-338110 Share on other sites

elviejo
What do you mean with "press r"??? I am running Windows XP Home Edition and what is "grub"?? sorry but I am kind of a newbie in boot subjects! What he means is that you boot from the Windows XP cd like if you where to install windows, at some point is going to ask you if you want to install or repair, at that prompt press R, its going to take you to a command prompt and ask you what windows you want to repair, there you must choose your windows partition, in most cases is going to be C:, after you choose the partition type Fixmbr, press enter, say yes, enter and wait until it finish, exit and you must be able to boot in Windows. Hope this help. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/47229-help-with-boot-problem-damn-pcs/#findComment-338313 Share on other sites

Toreddo
Yes it is possible. You just need a windows cd, put it in wait untill it loads. Press R you will enter a command prompt. You can typ help for options but im almost sure its FIXMBR or MBRFIX you need. It writes the mbr correct again. If this doest work you may try a windows 98 or so startupdisk (floppy) and enter FDISK, set an partition active (press 2) choose your partition. And voila. It should work Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/47229-help-with-boot-problem-damn-pcs/#findComment-338571 Share on other sites
borisbadenov
DOn't forget to mention to him that he might need to reformat the Ubuntu drives to reclaim them for window use. That can easily be done with the gpartitioner in the ubuntu live-cd or or in windows itself Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/47229-help-with-boot-problem-damn-pcs/#findComment-338587 Share on other sites
