MrDee Posted April 1, 2007 Share Posted April 1, 2007 Hi everyone, I recently had to reinstall OS X x86 since it became unstable. Initially I had 10.4.5 Myz installed and overtime installed the various updated made available by JaS. The .8 release though made my OS X x86 install really unstable, the final nail in the coffin was when I tried to install the Titan.pkg through Pacifist to enable QE/CI. I eventually got 10.4.5 reinstalled, and downloaded the most recent release of of OS X x86 10.4.8 with the 8.8.1 kernel, the initial install I did resulted in a kernel ACPI boot error. The second try was an upgrade from 10.4.5 and a customized install with only the essential software checked to perform the upgrade. Install was successful but I was back to square one with an issue I had with earlier releases of Mac OS X x86, Chain0 and the booting with disk in the DVD drive issue. After installing, I realized that my XP install was not going to be bootable again, which meant a reinstall was gonna be needed. I did reinstall XP, copied back the chain0 file from the OS X dvd back to c:\ drive, added the "chain0=Mac OS X" entry to the boot.ini file, but OS X when selected on the boot manager just rewinds back to the main entries. Can someone help me out here? A common problem. The darwin bootloader will boot the active partition by default... thus your xp, thus its nt loader again.When selecting OSX, press quickly the F8 key to get darwin's boot menu, then select OSX and boot on it. When in osx, edit the com.apple.Boot.plist according to the Messing with the boot options article in the Wiki's Tips&Tricks, especially the "Speed up Darwin's timeout count-down" sub-section. jerry Zhang Posted April 3, 2007 Share Posted April 3, 2007 maybe you can try tboot instead of chain0. actually, you do not need them at all. If you wanna enter the XP system, you can press F8 before the system starts and get the boot manu. Select the first disk partation and press Enter, you will enter the XP system.
