kstenson
Hi Guys, I just recently picked up my 17" imac last week and I've been wanting to upgrade the memory as it only came with 512mb. So tonight I took a 512 stick of ddr2-400mhz ram out of my sony vaio and placed it in the spare slot. Everything booted up after the upgrade. and when I click on 'about this mac' it says it has 1gb 400 mhz ddr2 sdram. What I would like to know if i am in anyway harming the system by doing this? This is only temp till I get two 1gb sticks through the post. I won't be keeping it like this. Thanks for your help Keith Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/47123-using-ddr2-400mhz-pc3200-ram-in-intel-imac/ Share on other sites
Vipersfate
I can tell you, it's not harming anything. RAM is RAM is RAM. As long as you have the correct speeds and correct type of memory, you won't have an issue!
