Advantages of 10.4.3 over 10.4.1?

Hi,

I'm wondering what the real benefits of the 10.4.3 version of OS X are. In the moment, I'm perfectly happy with my system and 10.4.1. I'm satisfied with the speed, so speed improvements don't really count for me (they are welcome, though).

The only gripe I have is that some new application versions don't work anymore. For example Firefox, Quicksilver and Cyberduck. Are these compatibility issues resolved with 10.4.3? Another rumor I've heard is that 10.4.3 contains a native iTunes. Is this true? Will a native iTunes version work also work under 10.4.1?

Are there other benefits of running 10.4.3?

i have almost the same system as listed in your sig (my CPU is the 330j). my xbench went from the mid 30s to 60. the mozilla firefox build works. the native itunes (unibin) is floating around in a release to developers, but this distro still has the PPC build.

after the oah patches, you can install over your existing installation and your dual boot should be fine (my triple boot worked just the same afterwards). the install takes about an hour. you will have to reinstall your audio kext (look for macgirls compiled kext).

Nice to hear that an upgrade installation works! Are all settings preserved? Any stability issues? Does it feel more "snapy"? And does anybody have the iTunes unibin?

Time to burn that 10.4.3 DVD

Just done two XBench runs on the same hardware; one on 10.4.1 with the 10.4.3 Userland patches and one on a true 10.4.3 install.

10.4.3 improves graphics speed and memory performance but unforutnately degrades SATA performance.

Here's the 10.4.3 results:

I did the update and everything is running fine, just as you guys described. Just one problem: I have now three "opeinfo" tasks (Power PC) which are sucking all the CPU cycles together. Is this related to spotlight or some other cronjob task?

271 openinfo	root	27,20	1	3,72 MB	106,75 MB	PowerPC	06.13	4,28 MB
235 openinfo	root	27,20	2	4,08 MB	107,38 MB	PowerPC	20.17	4,31 MB
278 openinfo	root	27,20	2	4,08 MB	107,38 MB	PowerPC	04.81	4,31 MB

Edit:

Ok, found it out. The tasks where related to openbase, updated it to latest version and the problem is gone.

10.4.3 is a very, very nice update! Everthing went smoothly, all apps are still running, all settings and data are preserved. There is no need to do a fresh install. I can recommend to do the update installation!
