urig-herb
Hi, I'm wondering what the real benefits of the 10.4.3 version of OS X are. In the moment, I'm perfectly happy with my system and 10.4.1. I'm satisfied with the speed, so speed improvements don't really count for me (they are welcome, though). The only gripe I have is that some new application versions don't work anymore. For example Firefox, Quicksilver and Cyberduck. Are these compatibility issues resolved with 10.4.3? Another rumor I've heard is that 10.4.3 contains a native iTunes. Is this true? Will a native iTunes version work also work under 10.4.1? Are there other benefits of running 10.4.3? suleiman
I too would like to know this. Right now i'm satisfied with 10.4.1, and after exams in december, and doing a full backup of course , I may be so inclined as to try the 10.4.3 release. Are all settings preserved? Any stability issues? Does it feel more "snapy"? And does anybody have the iTunes unibin? jasch
I have compatible hardware (D916GUXL) and was able to update my system. (nothing like a fresh install, since the old version ends up in a different folder). I retained configuration, documents, applications, etc. Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/4689-advantages-of-1043-over-1041/#findComment-29864 Share on other sites
stu1
Just done two XBench runs on the same hardware; one on 10.4.1 with the 10.4.3 Userland patches and one on a true 10.4.3 install. 10.4.3 improves graphics speed and memory performance but unforutnately degrades SATA performance. urig-herb
I did the update and everything is running fine, just as you guys described. Just one problem: I have now three "opeinfo" tasks (Power PC) which are sucking all the CPU cycles together. The tasks where related to openbase, updated it to latest version and the problem is gone. 10.4.3 is a very, very nice update! Everthing went smoothly, all apps are still running, all settings and data are preserved. There is no need to do a fresh install. I can recommend to do the update installation! jbettcher
Just scored a 96 on my xBench fresh install. I went out and purchased a P4 630, ASUS i915G Chipset board, and 1gb Ram, used one of my 200gb SATA lying around. It installs nicely on this board haven't had to hack a thing.
