kramer2k
Ok, so I thought about where this topic should go...and since I personally am not selling anything and this IS hardware that works natively, I figured hardware is the place to put it...so that being said, For those of you looking for a cheap way to add firewire to your hack-in-the-box or for those who have a front firewire connection on their case, but no header on their mobo, or for those who are just plain bored, see here... http://www.chiefpick.com/product_p/cc-sd-via-fw1e1h.htm I just got one w/ free shipping, came in 2 days and works like a charm. cheapest I've seen it at the egg was 9.99 + 4.99 shipping. solaar
Nice one. Maybe something to add to the wiki. Do you know by chance which chipset is on there? I'm asking cos I'm in the process of building a hackie based on the ASRock Conroe 945 for somebody who needs firewire though. The wiki isn't too much of a help since the few firewire cards listed are nowhere to be found in the UK. The problem is, as i'll be on the road again in a couple of days I need one this weekend. Online shopping is no option... Throwing my question back at those who have the ASrock Conroe. Which FW card did you get to work on 10.4.8 (semthex 8.8.1 kernel)? Would just ANY generic one work, for instance like the Belkin they sell at PC World in the UK? Any clue is much appreciated. cheers Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/46862-cheap-firewire-card-that-works-out-of-box/#findComment-336919 Share on other sites
U.C.
I believe VIA based firewire cards work fine. Also If u have a Sound Blaster, the firewire ports on those also work perfect. The above card also is VIA based if you notice. solaar
Cheers mate! (I'm an absolute dud when it comes to identifying what the name of a chipset is. I always thought VIA was some kind of abbreviation for a standardisation or format, like socket 775 for instance... yikes) Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/46862-cheap-firewire-card-that-works-out-of-box/#findComment-336939 Share on other sites

Now that's what I call a helpful post btw I installed the Trust DV PCI kit and it works fine in 10.4.8.
