Im using Partition magic 8 and I am confused on how to make a partition in HFS+, the only options I am seeing when it comes time to choose is FAT/FAT32/NTFS/Linux ext2/Linux ext3/Linux Swap. Sorry for sounding like a newbie, but im getting the Generic install of OSX86 and I am in the process of setting up for it to be installed...am I doing thing right? Plan was to partition 7-8 gigs off of my 80gig HD on my laptop and install it on there alongside windows XP media center edition. Ive been searching for a dual boot program and the only one ive found that seems like itll work ok is Masterbooter 3.4, will that work? or is there a btter way?

Sorry. PartitionMagic doesn't support HFS+. It calls HFS+ partitions "bad data," and demands that you format it.

any suggestions? ive read through a bunch of stuff and it seems as if people are depending on linux to do almost anything...and personally, i dont want to deal with linux. I want to be able to dual boot and just choose between windows and OSX.

PM'ed...but ill pst what I PMed for future refrence to anyone who has questions:

hey, the part I get hung up at is at the new partition on XP thing where it says:

"If this occurs, the logical partition can be deleted in Disk Management, which can be ran by typing diskmgmt.msc in cmd, or for those that prefer the GUI : Control Panel -> Administrative Tools -> Computer Managament -> Disk Management. After there is enough free space, proceed to create a primary partition of type 0xaf"

When i go to the disk management...what do I do? it dosent let me delete anything or really convert anything besides changing it to a dynamic disk, which i didnt do because I read that you cant go back to basic without alot of work and it wasnt prevelant to what I was doing anyways...

I tried to use diskpart to do what it says to do, but once I select the disk and type "delete partition" it tells me that no partition is selected right after I typed "select disk 0" and it replies "disk 0 is now selected"...so thats when I went to the disk management thing and got stuck.

Im currently DLing the DVD image...can I use it on this partition? ive read that you can and you cant...im confused, but it feels normal for something that is on the cutting edge of what can be done with OSX...so if you can help thatd be cool, im a newbie to this type of thing and I dont want to screw anything up. I've learned what happens when you do something wrong, especially when dealing with boot drives and partitions.

My specs of the book im trying to install this on: (sorry for the copy from my email order conf.)
