erbic
I've unsuccessfully tried to install Ubuntu 7.04 in both Parallels and VMware Fusion, and I figured... why not run it natively? So I downloaded the 64-bit ISO of 7.04, burned it to a CD, and booted from it. When the menu comes up, I hit "Start or Install Ubuntu". It proceeds to boot, seems to go along nicely... then I get a BSOD of sorts complaining that the X Window System couldn't start. It gives me the option to check the log; I do so, and it says something about how it can't find a configurable display. Then it kicks me back to a shell prompt. What's causing this? Is 7.04 simply incompatible with the 15.4" Macbook Pro? Or is there something I can put in at startup in order to make it work? asap18
Just putting it out there, you might need to install through the alternate, boot into a recovery after, and install the fgrlx drivers to get xorg to work. nybronx
Although I did install on G4 Ibook. I will say with out a doubt. that the install (upgrade really) was flawless not only recognized the ATI card but optimized for a beautiful display that was both sharp and crisp. Not to mention once the airport extreme driver installed wireless worked like a charm. .02 cts Milage may vary.
