funfobia
I try to install JaS OSX86 (not sure 10.4.8 or 10.4.9) on my Dell D600. It start booting the system then the system turn off. Then I try to power on but then the Dell white screen come up explaining that I need a password to unlock the harddisk. I try take the harddisk out and use it with USB external, no luck. Try to get into BIOS, no luck, it won't detect either. Could any one help me with this issue, because now my 40 GB harddisk is a piece of {censored}. ciper
The Dell HD password is stored in an area of the disk that is not accessible by the operating system, same place as calibration and serial numbers. It is VERY unlikely that your attempted install created a password on the hard disk. If you are unable to remember the password the hard drive is essentially trash because the hardware needed to remove it is extremely expensive and sending it in to get the password removed is usually more money than buying a new disk. You may have a chance though. There was a bug on some machines where it would randomly ask for passwords. Remove the hard drive and go into the bios. Restore all settings to default then save and exit. Turn the machine off and reinstall the HD and try again. Otherwise you can try these http://www.hdd-tools.com/products/rrs/howto/ or http://www.rockbox.org/lock.html Honestly I think you bought a hard drive or computer from Ebay that already had a locked password and hoped we would help you fix it.
