MrYellow
Hi there: Anyone knows about drivers developments of brightness controls in laptops? I've a Toshiba Satellite and for reduce the brightness level I must start windows, reduce the brightness and restart. Exist some tool for this? Thanks! ciper
On my Dell I use the function key along with the up or down arrow to adjust brightness and it works in OSX. Does your laptop not have a similar shortcut? MrYellow
Yes, the keys F6 and F7 are the shortcuts for the brightness, but it doesn't works! Have you installed some patch? The. Mad. Doc.
I have a To{censored}ta Satellite and the Function F6/F7 worked for me under OSX. ciper
The only patch remotely related to this that I installed was the one that enabled the battery meter. If I remember right it worked before that but I can't be sure. In the bios of my system you can set the default brightness,,, perhaps you can use that as a workaround? ciper
download shades and enjoy Do you mean http://www.charcoaldesign.co.uk/shades ? That doesnt adjust the brightness of the backlight, if your screen is at 50% brightness then you won't be able to make it brighter. Its a hack. Ferret-Simpson
But 80% of the reason people want to reduce brightness is to save some of the huge amount of power it drains. Therefore Shades = Useless for most people, although still good software for some. MrYellow
Thanks for replies.... I've tried the option about the BIOS gived by Ciper but It does not work! :-( Probably my brightness control is drived by software not hardware! DiL... I've a M115. It's almost same than yours.... whar BIOS version you have? and I've seen that yours audio doesn't work. My sound is a Realtek 861... you can try the kext of this link http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=36520 It works for me! The. Mad. Doc.
Under ToshibaHWSetup it says BIOS ver. 1.70 04/22/2006. Thanks but I given up on trying to make things work on this toshiba.(call me lazy) I figure ill just put vista on it or something. I have the eMachines after all and I needed the usability/portability whatever.
