I would prefer to key my keyboard. It is special to me. Sad huh? It's a IBM PS/2 keyboard. On of the first back in 1984. I had a bit of trouble with my keyboard too, the windows (yuck!) key was the command key and " and @ were transposed (amongst other things). I wanted the Alt key to be command (command-1 .. 9 to switch between firefox tabs, much easier than Ctrl-x in windows)... To change your modifier keys: Apple -> System Preferences... -> Keyboard & Mouse... -> Modifier Keys... To fine tweak your keyboard layout (if necessary) I used a great app called Ukelele.
