xenepp
I just don't get it. I can't get further than the grey Apple logo. I get the little circle with a slash through it pop up and when using -v it's that old "Still waiting for root device" problem again. Some with this motherboard family have had no problems but then again, others have, looking through the forum. I've tried every possable configuration on the IDE channels (I'm not using SATA) and there's no BIOS options left to tweak and yes, I'm using the latest BIOS. I actually updated it in the hope it'd fix the issue. -x, -f, -s, Platform=x86pc, none of these did anything (except the obvious), same old "Still waiting for root device" message. I've now decided it's definatly the motherboard since I've swapped it out for an Intel board and it booted with no problems. I can't use the intel board with my Core2Duo though, plus it belongs in my fiencee's work machine So is that it? Am I stuck with Windows? Does anyone else have OSX86 running with this motherboard and if so, what configuration are you using? Just for good measure, here's my specs: Core 2 Duo E6300 1.8ghz Asus P5VD2-MX 1GB DDR2 Maxtor STM3160212A 160GB IDE I assume the root device in question is the DVD drive, since without a HD plugged in it still gives me the same message. Maybe someone can correct me on that. Anyway, if anyone can help with this I'd be very grateful, I've been up all night sodding around with it and to be honest, I'm about ready to give up. -Joel Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/46487-cant-install-jas-1048-using-asus-p5vd2-mx-with-ide-fixed/ Share on other sites
NHJ
i am not sure but i think your card uses the jmicron controller for IDE, download the patch to aplly on the iso or use a sata drive. xenepp
Yes it does, I didn't know this patch was about. To be on the safe side I'm going to download the JaS.Mac.OS.X.10.4.8.AMD.Intel.SSE2.SSE3.PPF.1.Defiant.diskut ISO with bikedude880's patch on it. If that doesn't work, I give up! Thanks NHJ, I'll post my findings. -Joel Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/46487-cant-install-jas-1048-using-asus-p5vd2-mx-with-ide-fixed/#findComment-332780 Share on other sites
xenepp
Well, that did it. All installed and dual booting as expected, thanks again NHJ!! I'd urge anyone with similar hardware facing this problem to get hold of: JaS.Mac.OS.X.10.4. 8.AMD.Intel.SSE2.S SE3.PPF.1.Defiant. diskutil.biker880. ich7-R.patch.Integrated or OSX 10.4.8 Jmicron JMB IDE patch if you have already got hold of JAS 10.4.8 reseed. Thanks again, now to sort out sound and wireless (and the fact my screen is rotated?!) and it seems I'm done! -Joel Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/46487-cant-install-jas-1048-using-asus-p5vd2-mx-with-ide-fixed/#findComment-333425 Share on other sites
Detosx
Hi, wow, so there are a handfull of people out there with the same motherboard as me! I was never able to get Sata working but Pata worked fine. Are you saying you got Sata working, by which I mean installed to and booting up from? I used the Jas 10.4.8 reseed originally, and now the most recent of his 10.4.8 iso releases. HOWEVER, his 10.4.9 update fritzed everything; the hard drive doesn't boot past the Darwin starting message, just a constant reboot loop. I have not been able to resolve this one. xenepp
The "reload koolkal 10.4.9 combo update intel sse3 8.9.1 & 8.8.1" is what you seek. Worked perfectly for me, I chose the 8.8.1 kernel, not sure about 8.9.1 I've not tested SATA yet but IDE is perfect. I think I'll stick one of my SATA drives in there to test the installer and installed OS. I think a wiki update is in order. I'll get on it once I have all the info in front of me. -Joel Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/46487-cant-install-jas-1048-using-asus-p5vd2-mx-with-ide-fixed/#findComment-334551 Share on other sites
xenepp
Well, SATA isn't working. I guess a kext tested with the same motherboard family might help to get it running on an installation, but for installing ON an SATA drive, you'll have to try and inject the kext into the ISO or wait untill someone else does. -Joel Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/46487-cant-install-jas-1048-using-asus-p5vd2-mx-with-ide-fixed/#findComment-334582 Share on other sites
