benwinship
Ive been looking at buying a Macintosh for a long time now, and at the minute, they're just too expensive for me. I planned on making a Hackintosh a while back, and it just sort of never happened. But im pretty serious about it this time so i've got a few (probably noobish) questions. Im planning on vaguely following this guide over at i-hacked.com : http://www.i-hacked.com/index.php?option=c...2&Itemid=42 but i only need the mobo and processor because i have everything else in my system at the minute. I've been reading up on this alot and saw that the GMA900 that comes on that mobo seems to work perfectly in OSX, but the card i have at the minute (GeForce FX5200) according to the HCL on on the Wiki seems to work aswell, which leaves me with a bit of a dilemma, would i use the GMA900 or the FX5200? Proteo
Actually that guide is a bit phased out. The 915 chipset is not your best bet anymore. Find either a 775, 965 or even a 945 one. Searching in the forum you will find tons of post asking almost the same question as you. Proteo
GMA900 was well supported at the beginning because it was used in the Apple Developer Transition Kit machines, long time ago. However, AFAIK since then no other commercial Apple products have used it. Don't take my word for granted, but I believe that the use of some old kexts is needed to get this card working, however it is possible. On the other hand, the FX5200 is a product that has not been ever used by Apple, but it seems to work OK with the current set of Nvidia drivers: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...5&hl=FX5200 So basically, I think you have good chances of having either your Nvidia card or the onboard GMA chip working, if you decide to go the GMA900 route. However, any 945-enabled mobo will get you a step beyond, to the GMA950 which works just great for any 2D task and is fully supported by the most current updates. And about the mobo, I haven't used anything besides my current D945GNTL (which works great, but doesn't support Conroes) so I'm afraid I cannot help you too much. However, as I told you before, performing a search will give you lots of threads about the subject, like this: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...2&hl=GMA900 Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/46337-gonna-upgrade-my-computer-to-run-osx-just-a-question/#findComment-331846 Share on other sites
