I am trying to install JaS OS 10.4.8 AMD Intel SSE2 SSe3 on a Compaq Presario SR1850NX. The processor in this machine is an AMD Athlon 3700+ (san diego core) which supports SSE3.

This machine comes stocked with a SATA 1 (1.5Gbit/s) drive which I gather does not play nicely with OSX. I therefore have purchased a new hitachi deskstar (ATA133) which is set to master via jumpers and is connected to the IDE 1 port of the motherboard.

Computer specifications are here

Motherboard specifications are here.

These are the steps I take during the install:

When I get to this menu I select Disk Utility:

Then I partition the drive (MacOS is the name from a previous failed attempt)

I select '1 partition', the hit 'partition' and allow it to erase the drive:

Back in the installer I choose the newly partitioned/formatted drive:

I choose these options:

Then hit install. Within about 15 seconds, the install aborts. The error log shows:

"Install failed: some files for BaseSystem may not have been written correctly."

Can anyone help me with this? I can provide more information if necessary. B)

Maybe your ISO got corrupted or DVD disk?

I burned it at 1x with the burn and verify setting, and I allowed it to scan the disc during the install, but I will try downloading and burning from another computer.

However, I was also getting this error when trying the Jas 10.4.7 installer so I think it has to do with my system.

I finally go this working. I had to put the deskstar inside a USB shell, install OSX to it, then put it back on the IDE slot.

Even then, the Disk Utility has a hard time with this hardware configuration, and it takes many attempts to partition the drive correctly. I received a 'you do not have the rights to perform this operation' message or some such several times, and I would have to partition the drive to Mac OSX Case-Sensitive (Journaled), MS-DOS, and THEN to Mac OSX Journaled in order for it to install correctly.
