i'm having a fair bit of trouble with my install:

first of all i'm running a completely stock dell inspiron 6400, with nothing special

i first had xp on there, then set up a second partition to install MacOS on, and that went beautifully. of course i had a few quirks to work out in the Mac OS, but it was up and running, dual-booting perfectly. then after a day, i tried booting up, and my boot manager (acronis boot manager) told me it couldn't detect any os's to start up. so i reinstalled macos again, and again no problems.....i phased out my winxp, and went solo to macos. then i rebooted after doing some tweaks, and ran into the /com.apple.bootplist not found. ever since then my installs won't work properly. as of now, when i try to install 10.4.8, i'm not able to format the partition i want to install macos on...in windows, i create the partition "MacOS" as an ntfs, and when i go to disk utility in the install, i can see it, but i can't reformat to mac os extended, it will only change the label to disk0s2...

thats about as thourough as i can get...post any questions you have, and i'll gladly answer them

please, i'm at wits end right now

does anyone have any idea on this? at all?

EDIT*

i've come to the conlusion that the problem is i have lost the permissions to the partition i'm trying to install to....well actuall every partition on my hd. trying to verify or repair the permissions in terminal using diskutil repairpermissions disk0s2 results in an error, something to the effect that i don't have permissions on the drive. also, using the disk utility in the install cd, i can't mount the partition, and always stays a light grey in my list on the left, and trying to erase to a different format doesn't work....it seems to have trouble mounting the disk

i hope this helps some

Your partition needs to be formated to fat 32 to begin with.

same problem here... osx worked perfectly, but after a kernel error i tryed to install osx again but i cant format the second partition anymore. no permissions... damn, why it worked before and now it doesnt?!?!

i tryed 4 diffrent install DVDs, same problem on every each one...

even changing from fat32 to shagos doesnt help. ;)

any clue how to solve this problem? please...

Solve all your problems Here

as of right now, i'm installing....i finally was able to format the partition....heres what i did:

using acronis, i deleted my osx partition, and then created a new one as a linux swap....then before committing the changes, right click on the new partion->advanced->change type.....then find ShagOS(swap) and select that....then commit....acronis will complain that it doesn't match, but click ok....once thats done you can go start your install...using disk utility reformat the partition as a hfs+, and ur good to go!

let me know if this works for you guys as well

ps, i dunno if i get past the com.apple.plist error yet, but i will let you folks know

*EDIT* - working like a charm!....no boot.plist error on start up, and i'm on my way to having a working lappy!
