am thinking of finally getting a OSX86 box together asked if final cut ran ok on other peoples box's was told yes so its a go:P..... I was looking at INTEL PENTIUM D 820, and Intel 915GLVGL mobo.....

from what I read just quickly its suppose to be fairly compatible with OSX86 except sound doesn't work..... likely if I look around there might be a fix as I even got audio on my laptop working eventually.... but either way not a great deal of a problem.... I'm more wanting to get a seperate box I can run the os on so that I don't have to boot and reboot and so on:P to switch back and forth between os's:P

what I want to ask is any recomendations on any other boards.... also the cpu its kinda low end as I currently have about 300$ Canadian to put into this.... should I wait up and see if I can get more money together or all the same except speed:P... on wiki says that works with semthex patch dunno though:P open to suggestions;)

At this moment, I have OS X x86 v10.4.8 (JaS from Demonoid.com) installed on my 3rd pc--which was relatively inexpensive. This version of OS X installed without any problems--video and audio both work. The only problem, which I will solve later today, involves installing a driver to fix a video problem.

(You may want to copy this for future use:

'I had the same problem when I installed JaS 10.4.8 without the Natit drivers. I reinstalled the OS completely with the Natit drivers (NV40...) checked, and worked like a charm.'

Is there a way to add the Natit driver(s) to my install WITHOUT having to reinstall OS X? (Aside from this problem, OS X x86 installed on my hackintosh with no problems.) I'd be very greatful for a solution.)

My system has the following hardware:

ASRock P4Dual-915GL Motherboard

Celeron Processor (I will be changing the processor to a P4 Prescott core CPU, now that I see it all works great)

512MB DDR2 RAM

ASUS FX5200 AGP Video Card (This card works just fine.) I had a PCIe (PCI Express) BFG 6800 GT OC in a box which did not work with my XP SP2 workstation. I was curious about using it on this Motherboard, given that the Motherboard accepts both AGP and PCIe cards. This morning, I took the AGP card out and placed the PCIe card in the appropriate slot. I booted the computer and--WOW! beautiful video right out of the box, without the need to mess with drivers. Of course, I had read alot concerning the NVIDIA graphics adapters, and I remember that Apple had offered the 6800 series on the G5s, so it was no surprise that OS X accepted the card.

As you may have noticed, the Motherboard is not the latest--but I bought it ten months ago for retail $55.00 US. At that price, it can't be beat--plus the install is easy. You may find the Motherboard still on sale--new or used.

Peace, and good luck!

BTW, I don't think there is a difference in the quality of the video between either card. The ASUS FX 5200 AGP cost me only $25.00 US from newegg.com.

PPPS: I'm using a Seagate IDE HDD. The Motherboard has SATA connectors, but I didn't risk buying an SATA drive that may not let me boot into OS X--but I'm certain it can be done.
