-TiLT-
Sorry to tell you, but you have to reinstall. You could have known, that softwareupdates on a hackintosh do not work. At least, I think, there are about a thousand threads with the same problem. And that is since 10.4.3. So not something new. Bruce Wang
Unless you can access OS X partition via Xp or Vista to replace back the old kernel and some other necessary Kexts, then you might get it back. Or, another possible method you may try. Boot with 10.4.8 DVD and replace kernel, AppleSMBIOS.kext, IOATAFamily.kext and System.kext with the one on DVD under Terminal. adriandkicks
He wont be able to get to terminal even -S probably wont work because he does not any longer have a hacked os x kernel on his system...The only way that would be possible is if he updated his kernel and kept the backups in which case he would be able to boot to single user mode and re-install the kernel, AppleSMBIOS.kext, IOATAFamily.kext and System.kext. What files and folders must I change ??? have you a complete list of them ? I don't have MacDrive, not sure if it can read OS X DVD. But if it can, copy mach_kernel to the root of your OS X partition and mentioned kexts to /System/Library/Extensions. Don't forget to delete kextcache and mkext in /System/Library. If it can't, get the 10.4.8 8.8.1_nd23 kernel from #kernel @ www.osx86.hu/irc and PM me your e-mail address for the rest kexts. After replacing all the files from XP, you might need to reboot with OS X DVD and use Disk Utility to repair permissions. Bruce Wang
All kexts are packed inside Archive.pax.gz in System/Installation/Packages/Essentials.pkg/Contents/. Get the kernel from #kernel at www.osx86.hu/irc, just type !kernel to see the download link. tjarven
You don´t ghost through vista. You have to make a bootable disk and do it trough DOS ofcourse. There are several type of premade bootable cd´s with lot of tools lite davids ultimate bootdisk. user2
This is the very reason I keep a spare install of mac os on a crappy 10 gig drive. Plug it in and access your fubared disk Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/45414-problem-upgrade-1048-to-1049/#findComment-329059 Share on other sites
me@home
Same here, I have a 12gb partition with Jas 10.4.8 to "try" and error install... I made an image of it and can put it book via disk utility in 5-6 minutes, only has around 3gb. Did it 5 times yesterday...tried the tubgirl update, the apple combo, used x2 kernel....nothing worked really, OK tubgirl was ok but with old 8.8.1 kernel after update to x2 all tilt...another reboot, put image back and wait for a "better" install pkg for AMD. If my rig wouldn't run with Vista 64 and Xp64 and OSX 10.4.8 so fine with 4Gb Ram I'd already have sold it to get an Intel core2duo PC, there are a lot of things easier to manage...
