Hello

I am new to this, but I managed to get OSX 10.4.8 Jas on my ancient HP Pavilion laptop, a dv1000 (1.6 Ghz, 768 RAM, SSE2), and it works great. Like really great, after tweaking, I have Wifi (broadcom)...and really everything else. It's been stable for 2 or 3 weeks now.

Yet, I live perpetually in a flattened universe of 1024x768, with no other option. I believe it is related to the fact that OSX doesn't see my Intel Graphics Extreme 82525 (?) video card. I lack the 'core.'

Also, as a laptop user, I'd love to be able to sleep/hibernate my PC without having fans spinning, etc. But when I activate sleep, my PC spins down the drive, and my mouse disappears, yet the monitor stays on (so do the system fans).

Here is system profiler's word on it:

Type: Display

Bus: Built-In

VRAM (Total): 64 MB of shared system memory

Vendor: Intel (0x8086)

Device ID: 0x3582

Revision ID: 0x0002

Kernel Extension Info: No Kext Loaded

Displays:

Display:

Resolution: 1024 x 768

Depth: 32-bit Color

Core Image: Not Supported

Main Display: Yes

Mirror: Off

Online: Yes

Quartz Extreme: Not Supported

So, two questions:

One, How do I get my video at another resolution?

and

Two, Is this problem related to NOT being able to put my monitor in sleep mode?

PS: On my HP, there is a little button that is pressed when the lid is closed; it turns off the backlight. I can do that, but that ain't Sleep mode (at least in XP world).

Can anyone direct me to some help?

Thanks, rich

In Vista (OEM), you can select what happens when you close the lid (Sleep, Turn off display, etc.). XP ...SHOULD... have this option, but I've never used XP on a laptop, so power management in XP isn't my forte.

I think (almost) everyone is having problems with Sleep in OSx86. It will sleep/hibernate, but most of the time won't wake up. Forcing a restart. It is being worked on... but who knows when a universal solution will be available, if ever.

Hope this helps,

For resolution press F8 at boot to get the loader and then type

"Graphics Mode"="1280x1024x32"

include the ""

The resolution and dpth can be what ever you display can support. You can also add this into the boot.apple.com.plist file as well to save you typing it on every boot.
