A summary of the boot options posted in other topics (feel free to complete or correct it)

At boot prompt: [kernel] [kernel option list]

(both are optional)

Kernels:

mach_kernel [very useful]

Options:

  • -x [safe mode]
  • -s [single - log in as root without password]
  • -v [verbose - report detailed messages instead of grey apple screen]
  • -F [rebuild extensions cache]
  • -legacy [32 bit mode / emulate SSE3 - only some kernels use this option, maybe worth the try]
  • rd=diskXsY [boot from disk number X, partition Y. X starts in 0, Y in 1; so disk0s1 is the first partition of the first disk]
  • cpus=X [set the number of CPUs to X]
  • platform=X [choose platform X. X can be ACPI (default) or x86pc (may improve compatibility)]
  • "Graphics Mode" = "WxHxd" [set screen resolution to WxH with d bits of color depth. The colons must be typed too]

Thats awesome, thanks for the post. Do you know a way to tell it...or correct the USB ECHI, or UCHI? Booting from IDE DVD DRIVE, INSTALL TO USB HD, then when install is complete, it cant boot from USB HD...IOUSBMASSSTORAGE no kernal dependency, and then USB ECHI, or UCHI error. Any advice?
