Hi guyz,

I don't know if this works for you.. I followed several instructions from the forum here, but all don't appear to work on my Hacintosh.

1. Either I get it to boot then it hangs there

2. Boots, shows a bit of blue screen then hangs there, can't handle the login window or something

So out of desperation, I popped in my JaS 10.4.8 DVD and reinstalled my OS without reformatting and guess what? I have 10.4.9 now..

This is what I did:

1. copied all my extensions into a backup folder

2. Ran the update from software update to 10.4.9 ( DID NOT REBOOT )

3. Downloaded prasys script to update the mach kernel

4. Copied back from my backup folder , System.kext, AppleSMBIOS.kext , IOATAFamily.kext to my extensions folder

5.repaired my disk permissions

rebooted and It had problems.

So i popped in JaS 10.4.8 Intel Only SSE3 DVD, installed the OS without reformatting to retain my 300gb of data.

Rebooted, and presto! it's there!

I reduced the image size to 800x600.

Like I said, this method I tried with my issue. Not as an overiding method to Paulicat. It was not a specific dvd, its the ISO Image that I used for my setup which worked. Users who wish to try can use the ISO that he/she used for their first successful installation. I do agree the standard method is faster, but somehow it just didn't work for my setup for whatever strange reason. I'm just thankful I did not lose my data.. lol

I'd prefer paulicat's method over it cause with your method you need to reinstall and have a specific DVD in your hands, which not all have. It does the same (if not better), only is much shorter (about 10 minutes)

When I wanted to roll back to 10.4.8, it did say "you have a newer version installed", and this forced me to erase the whole disc...

Ow my, mine didn't say that .. you tried paulicat's method first? what happen when you tried..
