teatime Posted March 13, 2007 Share Posted March 13, 2007 Hello everyone, I have been saving my pennies for a while now in the anticipation of buying a MacPro, to replace my powerbook and Core2Duo PC. My only gripe so far is graphics card options. Whilst the Radeon x1900, is a nice option, I would prefer an Nvidia as I also work in linux. Can I go ahead and stick in any old Geforce and use the similar techniques I am currently using in OSX86 to get a "3rd party" card to work (edting Ktext)? I was thinking of getting the default 7300gt then eventually replacing with an 8800 GTS. Also, RAM & SATA drives! Can I just use conventional RAM i.e. Corsair, and just box standard Seagate/Maxtor/WD SATA drives? £270 for a 250Gb SATA drive is damn steep. I did use just some Kingston ram in my powerbook to up it to 1Gb. I would assume this still applies. teatime Posted March 13, 2007 Author Share Posted March 13, 2007 a bit more searching (bloody noobs!) and it turns out I can indeed use any old RAM etc etc and a call to our Mac contractors at work says "Yeah just stick on a lovely fat SATAII and you are away, there is 3 spare caddies inside" As they say, Cool beans! So now it is just a case of getting a geforce to work in a macpro!
