blue.mobile
I installed Mac OSX x86 in my laptop last night. Everything was going on well, when installing os, driver, and some other software. But later, I installed a input method software. The installer told me to reboot. I left it there and went on. Then I installed Quick Time player, it also told me to reboot. So I clicked the reboot button. The trouble came! It could not boot. Then I used -x, it did not work. So I used -v -x to see the log. It stopped at: (I can not remember other messages. This is the last one) localhost mDNSResponder: Adding browse domain local. The computer will read the hard disk for some time. Then everything seems dead or sleeping. Did anyone experience something like this? Or you can give me some advice by your strong knowledge about unix/mac? Thank you very much. blue.mobile
Some details: My laptop is HP M2206AP. It has an intel 915 chipset, with Intel GMA900 Video and AC97 Audio. Intel Celeron M 370(1.5G) with sse2, no wireless. I installed Mac OSX x86 for it (DVD install, not disk image) It worked fine after os installation. But the Audio could not work. Then I installed driver for audio. Before I had heard anything from it, I got the above error. What should I do? Check some logs? Modify some boot file? I am not good at unix or mac. But I can follow your advice. I have installed windows and mac os in my desktop and laptop for about 10 times in recent days. I really do not want to installl it again. It is boring when you have done it for so many times. If it really has something to do with Quick Time, I think maybe the video system was disturbed. Because in the normal booting process, there will be some log messages about video after [localhost mDNSResponder: Adding browse domain local] message. But I still do not know what to do..... stu_lowe2003
I had the very same problem when trying to update quicktime. In the end popped in the os x dvd again and did an archive and install. When it came back up i had everything complete (all apps and docs), just how it was before the problems. I have now updated to 10.4.3 and that includes an updated version of quicktime. Hagar
I assume you've read all the previous posts on this topic.. but just in case.. http://forum.osx86project.org/index.php?showtopic=1843 & for everyone who hasn't heard yet: Don't install quicktime off the web, it's PPC & will kill your installation.
