I used the (Jas) install of 10.4.8 and installation went without a hitch... I wish I could say the same for any other install... Ive tried with every other image since deadmoo and no dice... but now its working great... my specs are as follows:

Pentium D 945 3.4ghz(3.8ghz) 2x2mb cache

ECS socket 775 mb k7vmm (I think) Ati chipset with at express 200 onboard graphics

NVIDIA GeForce 7600gs 256mb

Segate 400gb 7200rpm (IDE)

Kingston pc4200 533 1gb

2 Usb-Pci cards

Network Everywhere N100 Net Card

I think it silly to have an ATI chipset and a Nvidia card but I didnt pay for it, Got it for my B-day.. WOOT!

So my problem is obviously that Ethernet doesnt work... neither on board nor through the card... I tried using the IONetworkFamily.kext provided in other parts of this forum (cp....chown... etc etc) but it crashed when I rebooted and I had to reformat and do a fresh install... When I go into networking the ethernet selection is greyed out and the box to the left is unchecked.. :D

Is there anything I can do besides replacing the Kext file? this computer might as well be a brick without the internet lol... you know how it is these days.. ;)

On the topic of ethernet cards, I've seen a few cheapo USB to 10/100 ethernet devices online. Makes me wonder if Mac OS X can detect and use USB ethernet... theoretically it should work, shouldn't it?
