fireloss Posted March 5, 2007 Share Posted March 5, 2007 I have OS X on the whole hard drive. Is it possible for me to shrink it and then install XP on it such that it has dual boot? I have tried to use iPartition by taking the hard drive out and tried to shrink it as an external drive with my other mac but it cannot recognize the partition. I have also tried to do it when the system was on but of course that didn't work. Any suggestions or ideas? Keep your data in a safe place. to be safe check your drive (repair volume, check permissions) Disable journaling in terminal. diskutil disableJournal <your_partition> if by your hand apply a defrag tool (ask me not where to find) reboot grab GPARTED-live-CD, boot off it run GPART-editor (similar to Acronis or Powerquest PartitionMagic) shrink your partition (kick your mouse as you would do in Windows$$$, no commands needed ) reboot boot off of OSX-DVD check/repair your drive reactivate journaling if nothing failed, enjoy. The Gpart cannot seem to do anything because it is a MBR (Master Boot Record) formatted drive, and it has an inverted triangle with a "!" inside, and does not allow me to do anything.
