deleted_account
Hello, I basically have an ATi Radeon 9600 series (can't determin which one, see below) graphics card and after downloading a driver and installing it onto my OSx86 10.4.8 (JaS release) I was reading this thread: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=34068 which lead me to this installation: http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=31638 ^ Where I got my drivers from. I've got the following pictures shown (after different reboots): - Has anyone seen this screen before? Is this a common problem? I really hope I can find a solution to this. The resolution I'm trying to achieve is: 1680x1050 ------------------------------------------------------------ One more thing, I can never really come to the conclusion of which 9600 series graphics card I have. On the BIOS, it identified it as: ATi Graphics - 9600 PRO On the sticker it reads: RADEON 9600XT 128M DDR AGP 8x Would it matter which one it ts? http://ati.amd.com/products/radeon9600/rad...ro/compare.html *One side note: Would OSx86 work with the mac software I current have and using or I would have to get OSx86 specific software? EDIT: Specs, Just in case you need it: System #2: Processor: Intel Pentim 4, 2.8 GHz Hyper-Threading, Socket 478 Processor Motherboard: Abit IC7-G Motherboard (Intel 875 Chipset) Memory: 1 gb Kingston HyperX DDR-400 (PC3200) Memory Video Card: ATi Radeon x9600 Pro Series (128 mb memory) AGP 8x Sound Card: Creative Audigy 2 PCI Soundcard Hard Drive(s): 80 gb IDE Seagate Barracuda 7200 rpm HD 160 gb IDE Western Digital Caviar HD Optical Drive(s): LG/Hitachi 48x DVD-Rom/CD-RW Drive Lite-On 52x CD-RW/CD-Rom Drive Network Adapters: Linksys WMP54g PCI Wireless Adapter Peripherals: USB Keyboard + USB Mouse Edited January 10, 2009 by gramarye Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/44020-resolution-bad-after-installing-driver-~-ati-9600-series-gpu/ Share on other sites
joe75
Those files are Callisto, try searching that. That is a common problem you are having. You need to try all versions of Callisto to find the one that's going to work best with you system. Some will say 008, some think 006, I had best luck with 003fixed. You need to edit in CallistoFB in the GA kexts and you need to add your EDID correctly into the callisto plist. Search around http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?sho...amp;hl=Callisto http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?act...ite=%2BCallisto Link to comment https://www.insanelymac.com/forum/topic/44020-resolution-bad-after-installing-driver-~-ati-9600-series-gpu/#findComment-314820 Share on other sites
zackmario
I have the same card and am able to get it to work with CI and QE but without the ability to change from 1024*768. I tried all three versions of callisto - the best i could achieve was being able to change resolutions but no CI/QE support even though the card was correctly recognized as an AGP card - and that was in safe mode only. I'd get a black screen and then the LCD would shut down with no signal without safe boot. I ended up going with a clean install of JAS 10.4.8 with the 8.8.1 kernal but without the ATI kexts. With the ATI kexts, CI and QE would not work. If you do the clean install, you will need to edit ATIRadeon9700.kext's info.plist to reflect the dev id. mine was 4150. there is also some small amount of mouse artifacting under the mouse sometimes. Not terrible. I got exactly the same image as your 2'nd image when I tried to force a higher resolution in com.apple.boot If you find a better solution, please let me know. BTW, i am using the vga port not DVI. Hope this is helpful I have the same card and am able to get it to work with CI and QE but without the ability to change from 1024*768.
