lotus49
i dropped of the scene for a while but has has os x 86 speeded up any?what are the main new breakthroughs besides the updates? i still have the pheonix cd i bet the new ones better is it The main improvement I have seen is the OSX86update (ie 10.4.3 userland files) which resulted in a substantial improvement in the processor benchmark on both my laptops. Unfortunately for me, when I installed it on my slower laptop, which has an ATI Radeon Mobility 7500 graphics card, the processor speed improvement was cancelled out by much worse graphics performance leaving me no better off. The weird (and I have to say distressing) thing about this is that this worsening of graphics performance has been permanent. Reinstalling from scratch (four times!) has never got back my graphics performance. I used to be able to watch videos full screen with no noticeable skipping but now I cannot. I would use OSX as my main OS if I could sort this but I've had no luck. Most people have not been as unlucky as me. All in all, it's very usable except for the graphics performance. I don't know how likely it is that this can be fixed in the near term, which is a real shame. I am a Unixer by background and I love the reliability and flexibility of Linux, but the interface completely sucks and it's only a good OS if you don't mind playing around a LOT to get things the way you want them. OSX is reliable, looks great and doesn't need much twiddling. Window just sucks altogether.
