Sumsia
And i did NOT know there is a patch to fix until AFTER I already burned the ISO to DVD. Nor do i have any spare DVDs, at the moment, to burn the 10.4.8+ppf+Disk Util fix yet. Moreover, i do NOT have ANY prior versions (10.4.1-10.4.7) either. Can i do it via Terminal? If yes, then how can i do it? douche
I, too, am in the same situation as the original poster. When i do this, it says: "You cannot reformat the boot disk" However, i also receive the "unable to mount dev/disk0s1" when i boot the installation program with -v switch. Could this be what causes the above error? Here's what i did, I created a Primary DOS partition using Fdisk from Windows 98SE CD, then, i formatted the drive to FAT32 using the FORMAT command in DOS located in/WIN98 folder of the CD. Do i have to make the partition of type =AF? I have Whoppix, a live distro CD of linux, how can i do it with this version? Sumsia
I get the "You cannot reformat the boot disk" prompt, as well, along with the "unable to mount dev/disk0s1" message when i load the installer with the -v flag. Is this Whoppix a good linux version to have? Because i've started to download it as i write this... Korrupted
It says that because the boot disk in this instance is the DVD. You have to tell it to format your partition. Sumsia
So...how do i tell it format the partition, then? I'm pretty competent at the command-line if need be, but unfamiliar dealing with it in a Mac environment. Korrupted
So you can't even open Disk Utility to see what partition it is? DU provides really easy access to figuring out what your specific partition number is. It's kind of a pain otherwise. Sumsia
Well, i found out the problem. It's the ppf on Demonoid, it screwed up the the original ISO somehow and i don't even need it anyway. I burned the original 'JaS 10.4.8 AMD.Intel.SSE2.SSE3' 3.71 gig ISO, installed, and that was it! Disk Utility is NOT broken until you apply the ppf patch (whatever that does/fixes). I recommend to NOT get it, at least from Demonoid, unless you really need, which i doubt it. Thanks to all who helped.
