boot with -s

at the console type:

sh /etc/rc

passwd deadmoo

passwd root

reboot

My post might sound stupid, but there is a commom issue than non-Macusers allways miss:

To be able to "su root" in a Mac you need to "enable root user" in /utilities/NetInfo manager.app

Hope this helps

  • 3 months later...

Sorry to bring up such an old thread, but I am having some of the same problems (unable to change the password/ "bovinity" does not work). I tried booting with the -s and seemed to be getting somewhere, although whenever I typed passwd deadmoo the screen would turn green and the mouse cursor would appear, as if it were loading the GUI, then it would go back to the console and would not ask for a new password or anything. I rebooted, and now it wants a password to log on, and the original passwords will not work and none of the passwords I have tried to set will work. Is there any way to create a new user account or something (anything at this point, really) to fix this? Thanks in advance for the help.
