Hey everyone. I have spent the last week installing JaS 10.4.8 on my Dell Dimension 4550, and have it running pretty perfectly. I am just thrilled by it. Thanks to all on this website (and a few others) who contributed to it.

My question is there is a new bios update for my computer. If I update the bios, will it critically affect the operation os OS X? I don't want to mess with it if it is going to mess it up, because I don't want to waste a week's worth of work.

As for what I've accomplished, I installed 10.4.7, upgraded to 10.4.8, got my printer, scanner, Kodak camera printer dock, ps/2 kb and mouse all working. I am ethernet connected to my wireless router, and using the dell as a mac print server for both my macbook C2D, and my wife's gateway. Installed iLife '06, and have it running grrrrrreat!! The only problem is the sleep function, but I just turn off the monitor when I step away for a time.

I coulnd't have done it without the great people that put together this site. Thanks again.

How would you expect anyone to know the answer to this question? Try it and if it doesn't work go back to your old bios.

Yikes, jumpin on him pretty quick.

In theory, a bios upgrade should not mess with the OSx86 installation. The drivers you have installed for your motherboard are chipset drivers, that often don't care what BIOS is running. BIOS and Chipsets have to be compatible, and Chipsets and Drivers have to be compatible, but there should be no relationship between BIOS and OSx86.

Like he said though, you will never know 100% until you try it.

I have had some major issues updating from 10.4.6 to 10.4.8. I have tried the egwan method but can't get past splash screen. I can get 10.4.6 running perfect with the exception of my dual monitors. I want to try Natit and understand it's my best bet for nVidia cards. So instead, I am now trying to find the Jas 10.4.8 ISO, but can't find it anywhere except Demanoid. Which would be fine but I don't have an account. Is anyone able to send me an invite? jay101 at sasktel.net I would be substantially in your debt.

Happy Hacking :P
