Hi Folks,

Have been lurking here for a while and decided to setup my Sony Vaio AR-11S with a triple boot of MCE/Vista Ultimate/OS X

I'm having real problems getting the OS X install to see the drives in the laptop, and i'm assuming its to do with the fact that the SATA Controller is reporting as a RAID Controller in Vista.

The problem i have is that there are no option whatsoever to change the configuration of the SATA drives, and on the Intel website it states the following about the particular controller :- "Intel® 82801GHM I/O Controller Hub (ICH7MDH) - RAID only"

I believe the chipset is 945GT Express

If anyone can shed any light at all on this particular laptop i would be most grateful.

I cannot find any updated BIOS which may have allowed me to modify the SATA config, also the Intel Matrix Manager (which is the RAID controller firmware) doesnt offer me any useful options other than creating/deleting RAID arrays. ;)

The laptop has 2x100gb SATA drives in it, but when i removed the initial RAID array it seems to just be using the individual drives on the RAID controller as two NON-RAID drives, rather than just disabling the RAID controller and using a standard SATA controller....

sorry for the essay but this has really been bugging me!!

many thanks,

Sam

you have the same laptop as I do

and i'm successfully install JAS10.4.8 INTEL SSE2 SSE3 AMD on the laptop

(by using VMware and make it to native and using chain0 to dual boot)

for me at first for Vmware in Os x disk utility it recognize my harddrive only 128GB

so I have to make a partition before C to make it recognize the partition.

my OSX86 partition = 50GB XP Pro = 190GB

but I still cannot find any program to watch Blu-ray movie on OSx yet.

PS. Mine is AR270P(Customize to Order)

ok first srry I cant answer your quest. and secondly I have another question(hope you can answer it):

well i have a Vaio desktop, and have the same Intel Raid controller, and I have 2x250gb HDD and they are connected together

threw the frigging Intel Matrix Manager and they show up as an volume and I want to seperate them again, and this frigging manager doesnt has that ability, so how do i do this?

BTW they are connected together right now cause i was trying to format the second HDD, to uninstall mac os x, and I thought I could with that crappy program, but I discovered that you CANT! darn it

hope you or someone can help me, Thanks in advance

@noptuno

if you running XP. go find Partition magic 8 and make a partition out of the main drive that what i did.

I didn't separate drive at all

but if you want to

i suggest to go to vaio recovery and you will see a bunch of option

and I also suggest you to make a recovery disc too because for me after install OSX

I cannot access to the recovery partition by press F10 during boot up.

so after you make recovery discs (for me is 2 DVDs) just go to the reconfigurate raid option.

thank you

thanks for your help titan

i've now got the laptop booting to my os x partition but i'm getting a "Waiting for root device" error

it said that the secondatry IDE device is disabled on boot, i wonder if this is whats causing a problem as i have my two hard drives set up as non-raid and the osx drive is the second SATA drive?

i will come back later with the reconfigure harddrive because yesterday my dad who didn't know that I install OSX in the partition, had deleted that partition because he wanted more space I wanna cry about this.

I may go and reconfigure the raid and will install OSX in separate hdd

thank you

i come back with the same problem with you mr_kratz.

and then i reconfigure it back to raid0 with a partition after XP.

format to HFS+ and then try to install via vmware.

all i got after reboot is

HFS+partition error

I'm sorry about this guy i cannot make it

anyway i'm finding my way there and if i recover it i will come here and tell you guy again

thx u so much

ps on native installation it cannot find any of my drive except BD drive so i have to install it via vmware

ps2 after in vmware. it will show still waiting for root device after a while it will prompt and ask u something i didn't read just click yes and it will continue but will see only your first 128GB

so make sure ur partition is in the first 128GB and the end of the partition must before 128GB

hello my firends, i didnt do the partition before xp, i did it after and then i tried to install osx and it didnt showed up the partition, im using jas10.4.8sse sse2 intel amd, what i did wrong?

was i suppose to do it before xp or after it?

now i cant go to xp again and i tried to restore it but my restore dvds wont boot it up cause it says it has a problem in volume_000, this is because i stick my two HDD and they were showing like one and i didnt know how to get'em back to were they were, and i believe that cant be done either.

Anyways what should i do?

at least in my second HDD i have vista, thats what im using right now...

i have the hard drives in my AR-11s configured as two seperate disks

on disk 0 (100gb) i have 1 partition which has Windows XP Media Center Edition installed

on disk 1 (100gb) i have 2 partitions :

on partition 1 (50gb) i have Windows Vista Ultimate installed

on partition 2 (50gb) i have OS X installed

i installed via vmware, and have my boot loader working fine with the chain0 method

my problem is that i cant get the OS X partition to boot, i get a "Still waiting for root device" error

@noptuno

did u try to install it natively? I'm not sure about this but I dare say for my laptop that it impossible to install it natively.

and about ur problem that is the first problem that I got too. if ur recovery partition still remain just press F10 briefly after the bios show Vaio

animation it will lead you to the recover GUI after everything is load u just simply press cancel out and boom! it load XP

if not you still have some hope to recover your partition. if i read careful enough about this u r using vista right?

so then go to start and right click at Computer go to manage go to Disk management and right click at your xp partition and select

Mark as Active. But by doing this your vista partition will become unbootable. that all i can think of right now

i will give you a short training for install via vmware

this thing that i use

1.Jas 10.4.8 AMD Intel SSE2SSE3 ppf1.iso

2.Vmware 6.0beta

3.daemon tool for mount the iso

4.patient (I don't know why it take me like 4 hours to finish the installation)

i want you to go to look at this and i will add something that we need to use for installation

http://forum.insanelymac.com/index.php?showtopic=11314 regard to SABA thank you for awesome guide

the things that i want to add is

you have to have an blank space on your hdd that don't have any partition and go to create partition using diskpart from that blank space.

besure in end before 128GB mile stone or when you format the partition for install osx if your partition

has the end behind 128GB you will get an error it won't show the error but the format will not be

completed (for me it works like this so i don't know about the other).

and after this you just wait and find something else to do during the installation.

ps i have one question to ask you guys. u install vista Genuine or pirate? i install mine with build 6000 and it won't recognize my

Geforce Go7600GT and no widescreen support too. so i just delete it and use XP :D

ps2 i'm almost there to be able to run OSX natively now it boot but it won't get in OSX because it won't recognize my Sata raid0

so i gonna change something soon maybe this weekend because on work day i have tons of homework to do I don't like to be a senior high

school at all wanna be kidz forever don't want to grow up ToT just want you guys to know that maybe i will post my success in the Post-Installation forums but maybe this weekend or next or maybe it will take me forever to do this. and i will do a fool proof for install this at the tutorial bar as soon as i succeed but

i cannot say that i will but i'm trying.

ps3 @mr_kratz you got the same problem as i'm right now and i gonna at through it soon

I will let u know as soon as I succeed ok? i'm glad you guys come back again. hopefully this evening

i'm in school right now so i cannot help you guys that much sorry about that as soon as i got home

i will trying to edit some files and try if it be able to run or not
